One upgrade, out of 2025 Topps:
Brady Basso - This upgrades a TTM/IP minor league team set card.
Still at 797/801 for '88-'24 and 988/1110 for the complete Oakland years.
A friend found a card packed away in an old box in his house and I actually didn't have it! 1993 Donruss Elite Supers Dennis Eckersley 2517/5000. And from eBay, 2004 Ultra Platinum Medallion Eric Byrnes 50/66 and 2004 Bowman Heritage Mahogany Brad Sullivan 22/25. For whatever reason 2004 has...
Most of them are on a couple of plastic shelving units like you would normally put in your garage, in my office/"man cave" room. 34 3200-count boxes, 13 3-row toploader "shoeboxes", and a few two-row graded card boxes. I catalog them on TCDB. I'm at 53,682 different A's cards currently but...
20 bombs in the late '70s wasn't too shabby, but certainly looking at his career through a modern lens does him no favors. 12 seasons with a career WAR of negative 6.5 is...not good. And aside from the 20 games in 1984, his 4 seasons with the A's stunk. I saw somewhere that he has the...
I've seen other sets that seem to be from that company. Here's a Trent Dilfer card, there's a listing on eBay calling it "Hero Decks" so I'm not 100% sure it's the same company but they look awfully similar. I don't know how they were distributed. The back is not a bunch of Ravens logos, it's...
A few pickups to report. Trying to cut down on card spending so there won't be too many additions this year, but maybe some stuff here and there. I know there is one A's auto in 2025 Topps that would be an upgrade and not expensive so you'll see that here at some point.
Doc Medich - Was...
My card buying is really going to slow down for the foreseeable future due to employment uncertainties, but here's a pile I got in over the past month and a half or so. I'll post from time to time as I pick up any high priority items that don't break the bank, but I'm going to stay away from...
As the resident A's collector I can confirm Rube Oldring in fact had a head:
Not the greatest head ever, but it's a head. Glad to be of service, since I'm sure you were all wondering.
One addition and one upgrade.
Devin Sweet - This 2024 Topps Chrome Update auto upgrades an uncertified Mariners signed card.
Dock Ellis - Here's how 1977 went for Ellis: 1.83 ERA in 3 starts for the Yankees, traded to the A's with 2 guys that stunk for Mike Torrez, 9.69 ERA in 7 starts for the...
Let's start this pile off with some Christmas presents from my wonderful wife:
1999 Ultimate Victory Parallel 100 Eric Chavez finishes off that team set. I still need a couple of the lower-tier unnumbered parallels, though. Valo is only my second 1948/49 Leaf card. Then another Chavez, 2008...
I didn't set defined goals this year, but I did continue to try to complete some A's team sets I liked. Here are some cool ones I was able to finish off in 2024:
T205
All of 1933 and 1934 Goudey except the Jimmie Foxx cards
1948 Bowman
1994 Pinnacle Museum Collection (which has 3 A's trade...
I've been busy with work and other projects for a while so I haven't had a chance to post my pickups since October. I've done a small amount of eBay shopping and got a small shipment from COMC. Well, small for me, it was only a couple hundred cards.
A few Trent Dilfers. 2020 Playoff Honors...
I applaud narrowing it down using factors that are important to you. There's way too much out there to chase everything, so it's great to just go after the stuff you like the most.
Regarding placing a premium on cards issued during the player's career - I absolutely do this. I'm also more...
I don't have that card but I can confirm the Green Proofs were super tough, I only have one of the 11 A's in the set (Dan Haren, sorry no pic). I have 4 of the Platinum Blues/10.
No cards of the 2024 Yankees in my A's collection. Aaron Judge went to Fresno State so I have a few college uniform cards of him but I can't seem to locate them at the moment...they're all cheapies anyways.
I do have some cards of the Dodgers WS roster, though:
Blake Treinen - I have a bunch...
After I pick up Mattingly, Finley, Bonds, Brett, and Bo I have a feeling I'll be sitting around waiting years for the final 5 to show up, if they ever do. Maybe I'll eventually just pick up signed cards from different sets and stick them in there, ha.
My small Trent collection can be viewed...
I think I picked up my Gibson easily enough (though he's pictured with the Tigers rather than the Dodgers so that could make a difference) but Hershiser took a long time and more money than I would have preferred. Bo was super famous so I knew that his auto would cost more than his stats would...
An upgrade and a new addition:
Tim Raines - This upgrades an Expos card from my '88 Topps set. He has an A's card in 2000 Topps and Topps Chrome so I presume he has one of those Archives buyback cards as an Athletic, I guess that would be the ultimate upgrade to this.
Willie Horton - Hit .314...
These are all from COMC...they actually shipped a lot faster than I expected this time. Using the cheapest shipping method it was only 12 days from my shipment request to when I received the cards. Granted I live about 5 minutes from where it was shipped from so that probably cut 2-3 days off...
Going to have to make two posts since I let my beginning of the month eBay search goodies pile up AND got a COMC shipment.
First up a few big ones:
Huge pickup for my signed 1988 Topps set. I already had the All-Star card so this finishes my Puckett needs. I only need 10 cards to complete...
