I've been picking up a few BTL cards lately and I can't really figure out what they are supposed to spell. The player is Jarrod Saltalamacchia and I've checked beckett/upper deck but couldn't find any information.

I was thinking Rookie and saltalamacchia but based on what other letters look like (black vs red/blue) I can't figure out what is meant to spell what.

for instance an I /75 is

/25

Any help is appreciated.

If I had to guess, /25 is the "i" in Saltalamacchia, and the /75 is the "i" in Rookie.

I think he means /25 is the "C" in Saltalamacchia. I would have to agree.

For what it is worth, this is what Hanley had that year.

I edited the pics right after I posted since they weren't what I meant to post....

What were the letters supposed to spell out? Hanley Ramirez Marlins?

I have 4 in hand and never noticed the ink variations....Thanks for pointing that out!

See sig.
The ink variations don't seem to mater at all, at least in my Kearns set.

Spelled out Ramirez Florida Marlins. The ink variation absolutely mattered for this set. I just picked up the F a couple weeks ago to complete my set all with the correct numbering and ink color.

I don't think the ink variations mattered, at least they didn't in Dan Haren's case. Every letter I have seen is signed in gold ink like this:

Expect for the R's, those are all signed in silver and I have yet to see one that isn't:

Also all of Dan Haren's letters were numbered to 25.

Oh I'm sure the rule doesn't hold true for all players. I just know that it ended up working for the Hanley set. I mean, UD missed letters in some sets so I'm sure they didn't fully explain the different pen colors to the athletes either.

This is why it is so great that Razor is giving each card a unique number. Hopefully UD takes a lesson from them, especially if they're going to continue adding words to be spelled.

The ink color mattered for my Greene set. The gold ink cards spell out PADRES, the silver cards spell out GREENE:

Was there an 08 set of this stuff? If so, Greene wasn't included. If he's in the 09 set I'll have to shell out for more autos (CARDINALS vs. PADRES... 9 vs. 5 letters).
