Why don't Jesus Montero Non Auto Chrome cards sell for much?

I have his Red Refractor that I picked up for $100. I know that a Heyward or LaPorta Red would sell for much more.

If you have an first year chrome auto card and a first year non-auto chrome, the auto is the best card no matter what without discussion, even if the non-auto was released months earlier in a different product. That's why Heyward and LaPorta reds would sell for 400-800 and the Montero was only 100...because for the first two guys, that card is their ONLY first-year chrome...while Montero has a first year chrome and first year chrome auto.

right but his auto doesn't have 1st year on it like the non auto does..

Doesn't really matter because it's from the same product and year. I wonder why Topps didn't put that logo on both cards...

For me it will always be the 07 Chrome RC vs. a second year autograph.

This is how I see it too. Obviously the auto holds more value just purely on the fact autos sell for more than base. That's really all it is in the end.

What if a player's first auto was his RC/rookie logo card, and his first card (non-auto) came in Bowman Chrome two or more years before?

This shouldn't be as complicated as everyone is making it out to be. You have X amount of money to spend. What year card(s) do you plan on purchasing? Do you spend X amount on 07 Chrome(s) or X amount on 08 Auto(s). $5 worth of Schafer 08 autos turned into $50. $5 worth of Schafer 05 non autos didn't turn into $50.

An expert on David Price cards should tell us what happened during his 08 callup as another example to look.

To me it doesn't matter if the auto came 20 years into his career. A single base card isn't going to sell for more than an auto any year.

The better question has been stated before. Which is a better investment $10 worth of 07 chromes or $10 worth of an 08 chrome auto? It's usually the $10 worth of 07s that will make the greatest return.

I know I've stated this before. But in the long run looking back I think it's going to look like this price wise (pure prices, not % gain to be made) for guys who have multiple autos.

07 Sterling Auto
09/whatever year Chrome RC logo
08 Chrome auto
07 Chrome

Or if there is a chrome auto

07 Chrome auto
07 Sterling auto
09 Chrome RC logo
08 Chrome auto

Yeah, I think this is true for Bowman Chrome/Sterling. But I'd much sooner own a Topps Chrome RC/RC logo auto than a Bowman Chrome RC/RC logo auto - as I said before, Bowman isn't about major league players.

Fair enough. I've personally never heard anyone say they prefer Topps RC over Bowman. One major thing being the sticker auto on Topps. Obviously everyone's different. :D

The OP didn't really make it that clear, if that's what he was even attempting to do.

Let me clarify: Very few *here* on FCB would say that anyway. :)
