Well, I finally went ahead and busted a case, and man was it fun. It's been awhile since I could get on here and actually make this post due to some travel, holiday, and family stuff, but here it is, finally. I also will be putting together a more detailed write-up for the blog that will hopefully be up within the next few days.
Anyway, I did very well with the case and it was probably the most fun card related thing I've ever been a part of. I had been buying three guys from the base set, and there were about 3 other guys that I had looked into buying from the base set, and two from the auto set (base guys to be kept secret for now of course
). It ended up being the perfect case for me though, because I pulled a refractor or better of ALL SIX of the base guys that I had either been buying or wanting to buy. How crazy is that!?
For some reason I love Tiger pitching prospects (whether or not they are all that good), so naturally Rick Porcello was a huge interest to me. I decided that he was a little too expensive for me to buy singles of him at the time, so I was hoping to pull a few cards of him (anything, even bowman base) to be a half stash/ half PC. I ended up hitting 4 or 5 base and 4 or 5 chromes, a gold border, a blue border, and a base refractor. Obviously I woulda loved to have hit an AFLAC auto or a bigger parallel, but I was definitely very satisfied with a handful of chrome and base plus a blue border and a refractor.
The autos ended up being about exactly half good and half bad (value-wise at the time of the break). I think I will be holding most of them for now to see how they develop. I didn't pull any Posey or Beckham which was a little disappointing, but I was lucky enough to pull some sweet stuff of two of the guys I had looked at buying into a little bit: Stanton and Collier.
I also pulled a Collier refractor auto, but here are the two best autos I pulled from the case:
Stanton X
and Collier gold!!!
And perhaps what made the case was this card which was in the same box as the Collied gold-
Montgomery 1/1 plate auto (which is currently the only card from the case on ebay)
I ended up crushing the odds with the hits too, pulling FIVE gold refractors including the Collier and two orange refractors.
After busting this case, I really wanted to order a second one immediately. It was so much fun, and I pulled some truly awesome stuff. Based on my 12 box case, this product is completely loaded, and I am excited to see how a lot of the first year players develop in the future. Note that I don't take grades lightly, but here is what I thought:
Current Value: A- (probably just under what I paid for the case)
Potential Value: A+++ (7 huge parallels plus the plate auto to go along with some nice base refractors and a ton of chromes. I love it.)
Autos: B+ (The three shown above were huge pulls, but none of the others would sell for much more than $15 right now, with about 6 of them closer to $5)
Parallel spread: A+ (I only pulled one prospect blue refractor (and one RC logo), but once again, 7 gold/orange refractors from a single case is huge)
Fun Factor: A (anticipation of what auto will be in each box or when the next parallel will appear made this a ton of fun to break. I just wish it were all First Year guys because sorting through the RC Logo cards wasn't as much fun)
Overall: A+ (I highly recommend this product and I would personally love to break more in the future)
Thanks for the read fellas.
