Unlike most of the "experts" I think this year was a very deep draft. I think there are 7 or 8 guys taken late 1st, or in the 2nd round, that could really develop and surprise some people.
I am always against taking the foreign players over proven college guys, but teams keep making the same mistakes year after year. Some of the guys never come over or take years to develop. With so many foreigners drafted every year, you can get some real steals in the back of the draft.
To really "prospect" you have to find a player that is under-valued, grab his stuff while cheap, then wait for his star to rise, then sell. In basketball, it's alot harder to "prospect" because there is no way to tell if a guy is improving, unless he's playing alot, which is rare for NBA rookies. The rookies that play alot are already well-known, established names.
I love Stephen Curry for this rookie class. But he's a big name already, so his prices will start high. Now, personally I dislike Nellie and think he will screw up Curry's development somehow. That would send his prices down towards the end of the year. I'll still buy his stuff, but not with the hope of it going up.
So you have to dig, guess and wait for a lesser name to develop. Danny Granger, although a higher pick was almost unknown until last year, for instance. David West the year before.
My picks for this year are:
Wayne Ellington 28th in the First Round, T-wolves (Great value at that pick, Great athlete with plenty of playing time available)
Derrick Brown 10th in 2nd Round, Bobcats (Coach Brown dislikes rookies, but his "D" should win him some minutes and outside shooting should keep him on the court)
Jack McClintock 21st in 2nd Round, Spurs (Great scorer on good team)
Patty Mills 25th in 2nd Round, Blazers (Some thoght he had better Olympics than Rubio)
Hope that helps and good luck with your picks!
