So I just sold the Jim Thorpe 2008 UD Iconic Cuts 1/1 Auto on Ebay for $2,800. I got paid and I sent the card out and he said he got it, so I thought everything was fine, until he send me this email:

"The card came I see nothing special about this card no S.# except the 1/1
plus it does not even say who authenticated it except a third party this
could be fake.there are no id marks on this card what so ever no nothing. For $2800. I am going to have an issue with you and paypal"

I wrote him backing saying that this card is certified by Upper Deck and that almost all Cut autos look like this. I sent him the Beckett Checklist link to show that this card does exist.

What else should I do to prove to him that the card is real?

I am just dealing with someone that doesn't know cards very well or should he or I contact Upper Deck so they can verify that it is real? Please Help!

You are dealing with someone with Buyers Remorse

if you had a picture call Ebay and apprise them of the situation so you are out on the issue early

Oh no. Sorry you ran into a moron bidder like that. Would you please let us know their name so we can block them from our auctions?

I too would suggest calling ebay right now and filling them in. It would be better if you do it proactively I think.

Ouch, sorry to hear that man. Definately sounds like a case of buyer's remorse. Good luck getting everything straightened out.

Also as a side note, since buyer said he got the card and didn't mention anything wrong with the condition and I specified in the listing that I would not accept returns, does he have anything to stand on for refund claim? I talked to Ebay and they said since he hasn't filed a claim yet and hadn't heard his side, they couldn't make a call on this issue.

Rough deal man. Not sure what to tell you, worst comes to worst he wins sends the card back and gets his money back. You relist and it will go close to the same price again, it is a 1/1 Thorpe auto

It doesnt matter if you wrtoe no returns in your auction. You will lose in almost every situation when the buyer contacts ebay or paypal. Sadly your best bet is to have him send the card back and return his money. I know it sucks but ebay and paypal 99 out of 100 times side with the buyer and screw the seller.

Not to ask a stupid (and late in the game) question, but you used signature confirmation right? Because no matter what he has admitted at this point about receiving the card, Paypal will absolutely side with him if you didn't and he goes that route.

As far as what legs he has to stand on, he doesn't really need any if he paid with his credit card. And if Paypal gets stung on this, they could come back and sting you.

I think the easiest thing to do would be to be as courteous and helpful as possible. Contact Upper Deck, perhaps give him UD contact information so that he can indeed feel 100% confident that everything is on the up and up. No one should be dropping that kind of money on a card like that without knowing exactly what he is getting.

Is it "buyer's remorse"? Who knows, but it doesn't sound too fun from your perspective.

Yes, I did get Insurance and Signature Confirmation, I did cover myself there.

Will I get my sales fees back if I have to return the money? Ebay charged me $50 and I think Paypal was around $80. I believe I would get most of the Paypal fees back, but not sure about the Ebay fees.

I just sent him an email showing the Beckett checklist listing that this card exist, and I sent him email and phone contacts for Upper Deck, plus the back of the card states that it is authentic. I really don't know what else I need to do.

Sorry this happened to you but your best bet is to have the buyer return the card and then issue the refund. Very ignorant buyer.

Sounds rough man. Like the others have requested, can I get the ebay ID so I can block him and avoid future headaches?

Sorry to hear about that. Like 200lb said, people shouldn't be spending that much money on any item without doing research first. I can see if it was a BIN/BO where someone sees it and buys it on a whim, but this was an auction format, there's no excuses for the buyer not to know exactly what he was buying.

Wow. Really no words for how odd and horrible that sounds. I hope it works out.

I was curious if it really was someone that may not know a lot about trading cards......while I can't see the bidders name (and auctions won).....you can see the 30 day big history and nearly every item bid on is "Sports mem., cards and fan shop".....so I'm not sure that is a viable excuse.

It's stuff like this that makes me not even want to ever list anything on Ebay again.....you can do everything right and potentially be hung out to dry.....so as I said, rooting that things are resolved or work out in your favor.

Id name is Kokal23 and is from Hibbing, Minnesota.
He has 100% feedback and 676 positive feedbacks and from what I can see most of his recent transactions are sports cards, so he should know well enough.
I should just tell him to take it to any local card shop and they could tell him in 2 seconds that the card is real. If Topps, Panini or Upper Deck says it's real then it should be. What was I supposed to do, get this graded by Beckett? Most people laugh at grading cards like this because it doesn't make it any more valuable and you don't think you have to double authenticate it.
I guess if I have to refund his money, I will just relist it and start the bidding at $3,000. I felt it should have gone for this amount anyway.
