Rockies are starting Gray @ Grand Junction with the opportunity to advance based on performance. Gray has already logged 120+ innings this year, so I'm guessing the Astros do the same for Appel as they transition from college to pro pitching.

Appel has more college experience than Gray, though. I'd be extremely surprised if he started in SS or Rookie Ball.
