Comon Tom, seriously.

I'm not saying I would have tazed him, and I'm not saying it was the right call. But when you do stupid stuff, expect consequences. I'm glad that there are consequences for actions.

Yes, absolutely. The apprehension should be 100% in line with the crime. He wasn't running "AT" someone, he was just running around like an idiot kid waving a rally towl. They had sufficient time to observe and assess his intentions as he ran around. They knew he was not a threat. The tasering was completely uncalled for. Teenagers are impulsive and do stupid things. They do need to face the consequences of their actions. In this case, tackle him, arrest him, he does community service and hopefully learns his lesson. People have died from tasering. It is rare but it does happen. We can't just give up our civil rights and let these rent a cops have carte blanche to tasering people for minor or harmless infractions. Think about it from a parents perspective... Do you want your kid tasered for jay walking, riding his skateboard in the mall parking lot?

Thanks for being open minded enough to listen to an alternate point of view.

Tom

Running onto the playing field of a sporting event isnt like those other things you listed.
If my kid ran on the field and got tasered...then so be it..the little bastard shouldn't have been where he didn't belong.
People cry about everything / anything. If he didn't use the taser...and tackled the kid..breaking his arm / whatever...there would be an uproar over that as well.

IMO it was the right call, these guards/cops are there for the safety of the players and the people around. He did what he had to do.

The father and son that served like 12 days of jail. Yeah I remember that
Exactly why you can not be sure. . Has nothing to do with typs of fans. To think the towel waving kids was harmless is laughable. How is anyone suppose to know Yell "STOP wait what are your intentions, Oh ok go ahead then" Especially after what just happened inTimes Square. The minute you show that you are vulnerable is the time some crazy will be watching and taking notes.

People need realize the world has changed and normal pranks are not all tolerable like they use to be

On a fun and related note, the company that my family owns sells those Tasers and the cartridges to the City of Philadelphia.

lets face it, the guy doesnt have too many other options... he has neglected his health to the point where he cant properly do his job. his butt is bigger than JLo's. being in good shape is part of the job. they need to find someone else to do the job better next time, as he really only could taze because if he doesnt then it would be 10 duncan donut cops chasing a kid around the bases 10 times. more people would come on to the field. thats where the authority loses its credibility fast.

I see what you're saying and I was just talking from a pain stand point. It hurts much less to be tazed than to have a police officer wrap your arm behind you and literally try to make your thumb touch the back of your head to subdue you.

I'll go on the record with my opinion on this incident. I'm guessing every ballpark in the league has had this happen more than once. I've seen it happen at both the Angels and Dodgers games. It's nothing new people. The kid was being an idiot and tresspassing but the tasering was uncalled for. The kid did not pose a risk and was not threatening anyone. He was just being stupid. The fat cop was frustrated that he couldn't catch the kid and took unnecessary force to catch him. I hope the kids family files a law suit.

Now the mullet wearing White Sox fan that attacked Laz Diaz duirng a game... that SOB needed to be tazed!!! While you are at it... the Father/Son tag team (Also White Sox fans I believe) that attacked the Royals base coach a few months before... those ****** @#$^%#@ should be tased as well :-)

Tom

the tazering isn't as bad as people make it out to be. it's much better than the pepper spray i will say. atleast when the 5 seconds is up, the incident is over with. i don't have a problem as all with it. the kid put himself in the place by being stupid and he suffered the consequences. and yes, i have been tazed before and pepper sprayed. it's part of the training i went through when i worked vice/narcotics.

A friend of mine is a police officer who trains the other officers with the tazers. She asked if I wanted to be tazed - I said no thanks! She said that all the officers get taz'd as part of their training. Ouch!

He got what he deserved...What are they supposed to do, chase him for around the field until he decides to give up? I know he's not going anywhere, but he's still in a restricted area.

Would have been for fun to watch if the cop took him down like this though....but I'm sure it'd be "police brutality"

I don't see the big deal with running onto the field. If the kid wants to live with the consequences so be it. One of the things I want to do before I die is run onto the field during a game. Just my opinion

Try that at a higher profile event. try that on Opening Day in Washington and see if a S.S. counter-sniper doesn't get you before you hit the grass from the bleachers.

I would have tazed him if I couldn't have caught him, but I also think i could have caught him. And considering how some Police Departments teach take-downs, he might have begged for a Tazer. I hurts, but it doesn't hurt that much. And when it's over, it's over. Not like, say, a broken collar bone.

I much rather be tazed than have an officer make my thumb touch the back of my head.

you got that from the picture and video ::facepalm:: Wake up

I love seeing the pic - it makes me smile thinking how the kid was tasered because the mallcop has consumed a few too many donuts!

in reality, I think Philly should install a firing squad. Put one with a gun behind home plate, one at first base in the stands, one at third base in the stands and one each at each foul pole. 4 blanks, 1 real bullet, and if any fan goes onto the field, everyone aims and shoots at the idiot and noone probably will know which bullet hurt/killed the idiot and which ones were just blanks.

a comical rendition of that scenario-
