I was gonna have another contest, but that will have to wait for the next auto.

Fred Clarke (1872-1960, HOF 1945) played from 1894 to 1915 for the Louisville Colonels and Pittsburgh Pirates, and managed for most of that time as well. His 35-game hitting streak in 1895 was the second-longest in major league history at the time, and from 1912-1918, he held the record for most career wins by a manager.

Here is a letter sent to him by the Sporting News asking to use his signature, which he signed and sent back. I wish there were a date on here, but I assume that it comes from the 50s.

Number 181 for the HOF collection. Thanks for looking.

Well done Wayne, you are flying towards the 190's......

What do you think of my Clarke? Won it from Hunt Auctions back in March, PSA did not authenticate back in May and I have just resubmitted to PSA. A Hunt rep told me Jim Spence personally guaranteed the authenticity and would slab for me, but I want a PSA slab like the rest of my slabs.

The authentication game is not a lot of fun.......

Great pick-up again!!

Scott-

Your Clarke compares pretty favorably to mine. The C Clarke look pretty identical. The only worrisome part is the Fred, particularly that the e and d on yours are unconnected, which I don't recall seeing. I would call them both legit, but what do I know?

BTW, my Clarke letter came with a JSA letter

Good luck with PSA!
