Re: 1940 Play Ball Authentic or reprint? UPDATE with new card.

Got the above lot in the mail today and it came with a 1940 Play Ball card of Charlie "King Kong" Keller. It came from the seller as the Gomez.
What are your thoughts on this one?

Here is a pic of the card in question. It was graded via Beckett and ruled Authentic although the left front edge of the card was sighted as "Shaved"

So fake = no. Altered = yes
Just thought I would share!

Hey I was right :)

Sucks about the trimming though :/ I have a couple trimmed cards in my collection, one you can hardly tell, it looks mint...it was affordable so I was all over it.

I just don't trust BGS to grade any vintage. It is possible that it actually isn't "shaved". I would send to SGC and let them decide. If you plan to keep, I would just leave it as is.

Yeah the grading was free from a contest and I don't feel like sending it anywhere else. Now the question is, do authentic cards mean anything? like do people still collect those/do the cards have value?

Thanks!

It certainly has value, but I agree with the idea of sending it to SGC for a regrade. Even if it comes back as "Authentic" or Trimmed by them, it'll sell for more in their holder than it will in a BVG holder.
