Re: 1954 Bowman Signed Set Thread *Updated 10/5* 97.3%!! Done

I'm also happy to see this thread updated as it is one of my favorite threads on here. Congrats on the very tough pickup! Knocking off the toughest auto in a set this old is a huge deal, I know because for my 1965 Topps set ,for a card taht I thought I'd never see, picking up a Charlie Dressen who died in 1966 was a HUGE day,
Congrats and keep up the good work, only 6 more!

I am very please to show off number 219 in my set Vern Bickford. I have had this card for a few weeks now as I bought it as a gift to myself for my 25th birthday. Whenever asked who are the toughest cards in the set I would of course include Ted Williams but Vern Bickford was always the TOUGHEST and probably the #1 most wanted card for any of my collections. Bickford was the first player dead in the set he passed away of cancer in 1960 leaving only 6 years for this card to be signed, I figured I would have to pay $700+ on this card. I saw it pop up on ebay encased in what looked to be a PSA case so I messaged the seller asking him to end the auction early, afterwards I realized this card was encased by some no name grading company with slabs made to mimmick the PSA blue flip slabs. I then did a PSA/DNA quick opinion on the autograph and it passed so for $225 I now have my most wanted card and the absolute toughest card in this set and gives me hope that one day it will be completed.

I dont think you will be reading an update on FCB. Talmer hit a rough patch in life, which crashed the PSA/DNA sub and several large transactions......which he still needs to make right. If anyone is ever in contact with him please ask him to contact me or another mod so we can take steps to make everything right.

I have been off the boards for a while. I figured I would update this thread one last time and share the ending to 5 years of collecting. I never did get that Ted Williams though I did have a number 66 signed (Jimmy Piersall). I ended up picking up Billy Martin and Clint Courtney getting me to 2 cards shy of the set. After about a year of not being able to add to my set and it just sitting in my guest room closet without not getting much enjoyment out of it I decided I should throw my near set up on ebay with a huge BIN/OBO (I want to say I listed it for $20,000). After a few days of not getting any offers I got a message while I was asleep from a very notable collector of very close to "my price" after making a counter offer I ended up with a check in the mail a few days later for a large sum of money, I got to keep the Clint Courtney (tried to keep the Bob Young) but KO needed him for his set, and two pretty cool promo cards Topps made for him including one personalized to me. My wantlist now is Keith Olbermann's want list. Hopefully one day he finds Hank Thompson, Hal Rice, Roy Campanella, and Teddy Ballgame and puts this set to rest. Stay tuned for my newest project the monster of all post war signed sets.

Nice to hear from you Talmer. I still remember everything you did to get Luna in Mexico.

Any vintage Campy would be a treat to see, but I have not seen any vintage cards signed by him after his accident, but prior to his death. Maybe people just didn't want to "ruin" the card for his scribble. Wish i was around to watch the chase. I wonder if we crossed paths on any oft the Dodger cards, if you bought any on ebay.

I had to find the Billy Cox card on the thread. His 54 Bowman was the first card I ever had of his and would love to have it signed.
