Hmm may have to go find something pre-1984 as that is the earliest Ive busted. Bought a box of 84 topps 2 years ago and got 3 mattinglys!

while you say this and it comes off as some sort of consolation prize, the real thrill of opening packs this old IS the thrill of opening a pack that is that old.

if you want a (insert grade here) of (insert player here) then it's "best" to go out and buy it already in that grade.

Makes me feel old because I remember opening '75 Topps when it was 1975. Of course I was 8 so I think the gum was the key draw.

I do still have all of those cards although they are a little worse for wear now. Actually just gave those to my 8 year old who thought they were cool (and really, really old).

Love opening old packs. Oldest I've opened was a 1951 Topps Red Back pack. Only 2 cards though and they are searchable iirc. Followed by 1954 Bowman. Was slabbed and in transit the gum put a sizeable rip in the wax wrapper so it was bound to be busted. BUT it was Football and a penny pack. So 1 card, gum stained and all.
