So, what I would consider the holy grail of Jeff Bagwell cards, or at least his most desirable certified auto is his 1992 Colla Autograph hand numbered to 200. Barry Colla, the famous sports photographer released 12 card sets of various players and in 1992, four of the player sets had a randomly inserted autograph.
Anyways, each "pack" was a 12 card set, with the first card being serial numbered to 25,000, at least for the Bagwell set. So, 25,000 packs / 200 autographs is 1:125 odds or with 24 "packs" per box, a roughly 1:5 box odds. In 2007, I was lucky enough to find an entire box for roughly 50.00. I struck out. In late 2010, I was luckier to find 2 unopened boxes on ebay which I won for a whopping 27.03 delivered. In the first box, out popped this:
Needless to say, I was ecstatic. Not only did I find the single best Bagwell card in the world of ever, it was unmolested by no one else but me.
Last year, I ran into money troubles and decided to sell it to Aaron (predatorkj). I approached him and he graciously accepted. A possible lifelong regret but still many thanks to Aaron for helping me out.
Fast-forward to today and I was able to find 2, yes 2, loose packs. Out popped this:
huzzah!
Anywho, in my searches, I've also learned of the other players who had certified players in their respective sets. I've been able to find photo's of all the other players but am confused as to how they were released. If anyone can supply/correct the info, it would be much appreciated. Thanks for reading
1992 Colla McGwire - inserted into packs, hand numbered to 200. Sometime last year, I think a seller flooded the market by selling off several of these. Wish I had nabbed one for the 120ish they dipped to. Is this a 150+ easy?
1992 Colla Thomas - Confused. I know he has two. So, one, inserted into packs, hand numbered to 200. The other, inserted into the Colla All-Star set?, hand numbered to 200. Was this inserted or redeemed somehow? If the latter, does it have an accompanying COA? Sell value 50-60 for each??? Is the regular pack inserted one more desirable?
1992 Colla Nolan Ryan - Also Confused. Like the others, hand numbered to 200. The one example picture I have, also came with the matching COA letter. So was this a redemption thing as with maybe the Colla All-Star Thomas auto? 100+????
So for the complete Colla Auto set, are there 5 of them? Im also curious as to the prices I should expect to pay. A lot of the pictures I got were from worthpoint so they didn't list the sale price.
