1994 Mantle/Griffey auto

I've decided to buy one and have a few questions.

1. Fair price? There are several on Ebay between $800-$1000. I'd prefer a raw one with as little chipping as possible.

2. Any problems with fading autographs? Some of the Griffey sigs look a little faded, but it might be due to lousy scans

3. Any problem with counterfeits? I assume they have a UDA hologram on the back

4. What set did they originally come from?

I seem to recall a thread somewhere (Beckett or CU) a few years ago highlighting questionable samples from this set. I think that some of the Griffey guys were comparing autographs on them. I'd seriously consider getting one already slabbed or reading up on Griffey and Mantle autographs just to be safe. Plus the slab will help with the liquidity if you have to move it or at least provide some protection.

I have seen a few sell for less then $800 in the past month.
Some have better sigs then others, not sure if it is fading or they came that way.
They do have the hologram on the back.
They came from 94 UD retail, don't remember if it was series 1 or 2.

Here is mine. It has some chipping, but the finest sigs that i could find.

From what I know of those autographs (or at least what I believe to be true) is that theres no way of knowing if the auto, say you had the dual, was released as the dual version. For example, I remember hearing someone bought the card with just Mantles auto on it and later had met Griffey and had him sign it. I dont think the authentication sticker can be matched up anywhere or by UD to be certain it was pack pulled with the autos on it. I have never seen a fake cersion, though, so if its not a big deal to you that someone may have had it signed later and it didnt come out of the pack that way....well its still signed right? As you said, there have been some where the Griffey auto seems to be somewhat smeered or the pen was drying up maybe. I believe they were from packs of 1994 Upper Deck but in the past few years UD rereleased them as buybacks in some UD product.
