Was roaming about the local flea market a few weeks ago when I stumbled upon a unique but common item-1997 Donruss Studio Portraits 8x10 of Jeff Bagwell, complete with the original packaging. While not rare or expensive (one can be had for $2 bucks on eBay, although non are listed on COMC interestingly) still a pretty cool parallel from back in the day. Just wanted to share some pics

Most interesting to me however was the promo sheet and ordering sheet for what Donruss called it's "Portrait Collection", which basically looked like framed display pieces of either the Studio card (#/500) for $199 or the Masterstrokes card (#/100) for $299.

So anybody have or ever seen the framed version of their player? I'm curious how many of each of these ended up being made since it appears to be made to order.

Also If given the option today with your player, would you order one? Or would you view it along the lines of a Topps online exclusive?

Thanks,
Jeff

Man those seem ridiculously priced for 1997, being numbered to 100 or 500, and just being a framed oversized card. I can't see the value there for them to have been bought up in anywhere near the full run. And can't say I remember ever seeing one.

I'm not justifying the cost but they are foil stamped differently and artist signed. So if not many made it out , I can see these variations having value if they hit the market (take out of frame and you had 2 different versions to chase)

Some (or at least one) was definitely made of the Studio version, as a google dig shows a guy from NH had a Greg Maddux for sale earlier this year (unfortunately no photo). The same guy had a Craigslist ad for the item listed on June 22 but the link is now dead.

Can't find anything else about these anywhere online however. Strange after all these years, but I guess depends on how many did sell. Unfortunately we probably will never know with Donruss being no more.

Would definitely want this if my player existed, as I think it would make a great display piece. As for the price tag, definitely a bit high for sure considering 99 more could be made of your player.

Thanks,
Jeff

Here's a /500 Studio Portrait:

And here's a /100 Masterstroke:

Don't think you'll ever find how many were purchased. Doubt records were kept or made public.

Shame they broke open the Vlad Masterstrokes to sell it separately. And I agree, will never know final print runs for these.

Thanks,
Jeff

I saw the Andruw a long time ago. Maybe 2010. I passed because the seller was asking around $200. Now I know why.

Seems like a good time to bump this with the emergence of the 1/500 Masterstrokes Frank Thomas.

Thanks,
Jeff

I got one of my most memorable pulls from a pack of this product - a Scott Rolen jumbo auto. But wait, it's not just one, it's two! Two stuck together. Unfortunately, both suffered from production damage, and perhaps that's why they stuck together. I've always wondered if it happened before he signed them or as they were collated into packs. Anyway, sold them on ebay back in about 1998.

Picked up this sample last year, but it's been a dry spell. Any leads on other Frank Thomas versions?

They look awesome for autographs.
I got this one a few years back at a Ripken meet and greet.

I've seen the Griffey Master Strokes on FB but the guy never really returned my message about it

I have Jeter, Bagwell, Gwynn, Vaughn, Andruw, Chipper and Maddux signed TTM from the 97 set, plus a TTM signed Pettitte Master Strokes.
From the 98 set, I have Knoblauch and Travis Lee signed TTM.
