Hello, does anyone have any of these? I am looking to gather as much info on them as I can, and purchase as many as I can. I remember the Ted Williams 9/9, Killebrew 3/3, Mays 24/24 serial #'d fakes on eBay years ago, but haven't seen any of the top guys since!

I do have a specific question for anyone with absolute knowledge on the subject. Was Ken Griffey JR inserted into Upper Deck series 2 or UD Etchings? I am finding that people have said he was in Etchings, even though UD series 2 checklist website shows him to be on it, and the packs confirm there is someone /25 in it. I know Palmeiro was 25 was well, and also the same year, but supposably hes Series 1?

Any info would be great!

Lets see what you've got!

You'll find quite a few fans of that set on this board. Autos do come up once in a great while. But they are so rare, so desirable, and from so relatively long ago that they've become permanently entrenched in collections.

Yesterday I had a phone conversation with the owner of the Ruth, Killabrew, and others.

I agree...You'll find your answers here.
There are a couple die hard POH collectors here that can tell you EVERYTHING about the set.
I remember quite a few posts about it including the sell sheet.
Good Luck

George - Does your phone friend have an Ernie Banks by any chance? And would he like $2500 for it?

Pinbreaker - Thank you for directing me to magicpapa. That Griffey he has is unreal. He directed me to the baseballcardpedia which says Griffey is in Etchings... I fear that baseballcardpedia has followed the one link I have found here:
http://www.peninsulasportscards.com/hotpulls.html
8. 2004 Upper Deck Etchings BB Piece Of History 500 HR Club Autographed Bat Ken Griffey Jr #X/25

Etchings has no stated odds for the card, while UD Series 2 packaging, and the UD website both do. I am still looking for concrete information on the matter for anyone out there with it, I'm willing to give compensation for your help at putting my mind at ease!

Thanks to everyone who's helped so far!

UPDATE:

sigh...

To the OP, Griffey was in Etchings. I can confirm this, as one of my friends pulled one (out of 2 packs haha, he sold it on ebay for either $1500 or $2500, I don't remember).

The Reggie POH Bat/Auto seen above was mine. I saw a sweet BIN for around 5 and quickly doubled my money

OK I dont follow the sales history on these, but wouldnt $2300 have been a great price to buy this lot and then break it up to make a profit (especially with two Ruth's in it), or am I way off here?

With patience you can get the Ruth for 5-600. Mantle 250-3. Williams prob around 2, Ott Schmidt around 1 each. That's around 13. My prices are a tad conservative but it just goes to show it's not a great buy. I know what he paid for the Jackson (to me) and at the prices I quoted it's essentially a 'fair-priced' lot. Maybe a decent buy but not much profit potential imo.

There are 2 Ruth's in the lots, so by your estimates the breakup (minus the Jackson) would be closer to 1800-1900
So with that additional info, what is your opinion?

I messaged the seller who responded that he sold it to a buddy who would be looking $2750 on it. That was more than I was comfortable doing at the moment so I passed, but probably still a reasonable price.

My perspective was:

2 RUTH - last one sold for $800 I believe, but over the last few years it's been closer to $650. $1300 for the pair.
1 MANTLE - one recently sold for around $250, but it tends to get $300-$350.
1 WILLIAMS - recently sold for over $300, but having moved 3 of them in a the last couple of years, I'd say $250 has been the market (if not a bit lower.)
1 OTT - card has not sold for more than $100 in a while.
1 SCHMIDT - $100 is probably reasonable.

That totals $2050-$2100 or so plus the Jackson.

On the Jackson, I know it sold for $1000, but personally I would not have valued it that high. I sold a McCovey a while back for around $650. A Frank Robinson (with some fading) sold for around $600 as well (Robinson is numbered to /20.) Jackson from what I have seen in this set and in general tends to sell pretty poorly, so I'm not sure I would have put it at much more than the $650 I got for the McCovey.

Assuming that total you are looking at $2700-$2750 in my eyes as a reasonable estimate. If the market has shifted upwards on the Ruth's, and 1K is in fact a better estimate for the Jackson than there's probably some money to made (and either way it is certainly not a bad price) but it was stretching my budget even at the auction price. Still a chance to get some cards that rarely pop up, at a time when the market on them is a little lower than it has been at times.

Top -

I'd say the 800 Ruth sale was more of a fluke given prior sales. I picked mine up for 500 (it can be done) but later moved it. I'd say 12-13 for the pair. Your other estimates were around the same as mine.

I ended up selling the Jackson for I think 9? Less than a WEEK earlier this sale slipped by, not a clue how:

[ebay:30czczlj]390353971046[/ebay:30czczlj]

My estimate on the lot was basically exactly what he was asking for, WITH the Jackson included. I figure the Jackson is probably a $500-600 card at auction but with the right diehard buyer, probably around what I sold it for.

I remember when you snagged the Ruth. Definitely a nice deal.

Sometimes I wonder how many great cards slip by because they are simply not listed well and people do not find them. I would have placed a pretty competitive bid on the Jackson had a seen it.
