Thanks, but i was referring to the "regular" 500 Club (approx. 50 , not the POH card) card.

Hello,

Newbie here.

What do you think would be fair prices currently for the Mantle and McGwire? Mantle seems to be in the $330 to $375 range. McGwire? Last one I could find was $105 in April but that seems as though someone got a tad lucky. Is $150 more appropriate?

What do you think the Ruth 714HR should be? There is one up now with an opener of $3k and a BIN of $4,750. When I did a google on the card, the only completed sale seems to be last year at $4,150 (from a japanese guy's web-site). There is a second one up but it is part of a set along with graded rookies where the guy is looking for $100k. He should be selling with Memory Lane or some other auction house, not Ebay. The card only seems to pop up once a year.

Does anyone have any opinions on the "Triple Bat" card?

Regards

For the longest time Mantle was $300-$375 or so. Recently a couple have sold for mid $200's, though I have the feeling that it is still a $300+ card for the most part. On McGwire I am not really sure, though $105 sounds very low.

On the Ruth, I sold one a BGS 9 awhile back for $5000. If the card does not go much higher than $3000 I might try to place to a bid (though probably not going to happen since not a great time for me to try to put together $3000, even if it is a good deal and could probably sell for $500-$1000 more a while later.

As for the triple bat, I don't know for sure what the story is, but it seems to be more common that one might have thought. It is possible that over the next couple of years the copies that have surfaced will find their way into private collections and it will get much tougher to find (than now when it seems like one shows up every week or so.) Don't know though.

Holy crap! Steal of the year right there!
Wow. I would have found some way to put the money together for that. Crazy deal.

I have not been following too closely, but I did notice over the last few months a couple sell in the $250 range. Both seemed like flukes though.

I thought it was a little low. I was going to post it while it was running but didnt want to make anyone mad. Im not sure when it ended but it was in the last few months. It is a steller set but the average card collector will never be able to put it together. Its crazy how popular the set is.

That's a 50k card.

What may have happened is, Hunt, in their big sales, run the stuff on the internet and then when the physical auction starts they pick up where the internet leaves off. So, it's possible, that's just the final internet bid and not the actual final price. Atleast, I would hope.

The auction was not very well promoted. He card was hard to find in the listings too. Not saying that you are wrong just that is what i noticed.

I look at EBAY from time to time as well as the other auction houses, and that Ruth Cut was def a steal..

The Triple Bat cards are showing up, but I'm not sure if they are the same ones in circulation just getting sold from one collector to another..

I have been picking up the regular ones if I think they are cheap.. last one was a Schmidt for $65

I might have to see if Millcreek is going to have a Schmidt signing and have him do these (I have 2 extras now)

Here is a link to my set if anyone is interested..

Sales recently have been pretty inconsistent. Some cards going really, really high, while others are going really low.

Love the set!

I have a buddy who works for Hunt Auctions, and I'll see if I can get him to confirm the Final price on the Ruth Cut, and why it may have gone so low...

My buddy didn't have much to add other than their last coupla auctions haven't been as good, price-wise. More activity, traffic, etc. but prices have been down. And he agreed it's a great price for the Buyer...

Nice cards. I wish they would have used a White Sox photo for Frank Thomas and it would have been nice if they'd have used a photo of Frank Robinson from his playing days instead of a picture of him as a manager.

Yep, but didn't have much other info. He was at the Louisville Auction...

That has to be one of the best steals ever.

If this was 24 months ago I would have bought that card. That EASILY is a 10k card.
With other Ruth cuts going for 5-8k and up along with low grade signed balls.
One of 3 copy's of the master card in the All time Revolutionary and arguably greatest insert card set of all time. I wonder how much it could have gone for if it was well promoted.

I think that would have sold for around $20,000 +/- on Ebay.

What do you think the 500 Club (714 HR) version of the Ruth card should go for?
