1999 Upper Deck MVP Preview... who's got one?

How were these different than the base card? Also, any idea of how rare/print run? I'd love to see an example if someone has a nice scan.... Thanks!

No example of one, but here's info from Beckett:

This skip numbered set was issued to preview what the 1999 Upper Deck MVP set would look like. Printed in the same style as the regular MVP cards, exactly one half of the 220 cards printed in the regular set were available in this set. This set was issued in five card packs available in retail stores for less than a dollar.

I saw that, and it seems really odd that I've never seen one on eBay, Beckett, or anywhere else. Maybe they've been out there and i just missed them. Or are these like the Pacific Online Winners in that they "sort of" exist because we've only ever seen one or two? Do any of you fellow insane player collectors have one?

I have never seen one. I always assumed it was one of Beckett's many mistakes. I still think this is the card they meant:

Now there are 1999 Upper Deck MVP Samples that consist of two Ken Griffey, Jr. cards. One base, one silver. I have a bunch of these in a two cards per pack preview. Got them at a Sun Times show back then. I'll work up a scan if someone needs it. It's the only preview for 99 MVP listed in the SCD Annual. I have a bunch of the UD Choice ones of various people, too.

**edit** in the SCD, they list the UD Choice Previews as a 55 card set, sold in 5-card packs. Jeter, Ripken, McGwire, Bonds, Griffey, Rodriguez, Maddux, Thomas, etc., are all there.

Nope, Beckett lists the 1999 UD MVP Preview specifically. It seems ultra-rare, as I've never seen one or heard definitively that it exists. Not to say it doesn't, but if the hard-core player collectors haven't seen one then it makes me think it's not real. I'm VERY eager to see a scan if someone's got one!

I don't have a base Griffey from the set to know if the fronts are the same, so someone else will have to confirn/deny that. Where Beckett gets all those Promos for MVP I have no idea.

Thanks a lot Greg for posting those scans! However it looks like Beckett lists what you have as the 1999 Upper Deck MVP Sample #S3. They do also list the MVP Preview #190 for Griffey which has the same card # as the base card. Is it possible this is a mistake? Or do these really exist and just insanely rare? It seems to me if they really exist, one of us crazy player collectors will have one. Anyone else?
