Pretty cool to see the Royals in 1st place in the AL Central after being way back 3 weeks ago. Most people thought the Tigers would take this division. Royals haven't been in 1st this late in the season since 2003 and haven't been in the playoffs since 1985. Good example of why you don't ever give up on your team. Dodgers did something similar to this last year. Any Royals fans on here? Lets hear it!

Hell must be freezing over with the Royals this year (and the Pirates last year) seriously contending for October for the first time in a long time.

I'd expect the Royals to fade for good soon, I can't believe they will play good enough with so little playoff contention experience to make it to the playoffs. But this year will pay dividends with that experience for upcoming years.

It is nice, being a Royals fan. I wouldn't expect them to fade. They're the best defensive team in MLB, per defensive metrics. They have a top 5 rotation in terms of era and IP and they have the top bullpen in baseball. Get to the 7th with any lead, and Herrera/Davis/Holland shuts it down. Not every team needs to put up 6 runs per game to continue winning.

I got excited in June when they took, what, 3 of 4 from Detroit, in Detroit. Then they **** the bed and were 4 or 5 games back w/in a 10 day stretch. If by the end of the month they are still in first and playing a high level of baseball, I'll believe it a bit more.

The problem with Detroit remains the same every year. They have no consistency in the bullpen so they blow too many close games, which in turn leads them to underachieve all year until about September when they finally realize they need to win the division, and they turn it up a notch. On paper, this team should have the best record in baseball and should win the division by 15 games.

I love it when underdog teams like Kansas City and Pittsburgh do well.
Imagine how good K.C. can be if their many young players like Butler, Gordon, Moustakis and Hosmer start hitting to their potential. If those guys really turn it on in September, they could be a World Series contender.

I thought the 2008 Devil Rays would fade but they never did. They made it all the way to the World Series. Good for baseball to see small market/low salaried teams make the playoffs, or at least having a good shot at making the playoffs.

I think the Royals, because of some of the Brewers that have come over in trades (Cain, Escobar, etc), have become my favorite team in the AL. I am rooting for you guys!
