I'm going to be doing my first submission with BGS and would like any advice that I can get.

1) If I am doing the $5/20 day is that for all types of cards (autos included)?
2) Any suggestions on how to package my cards?
3) Suggestions on how to mail (insured, del. conf)?
4) Any other pointers that may help me make the most of this submission?

Thanks
Ryan

1. I believe it is an extra $2 per auto.
2. Use card savers if possible, at least soft and hard sleeve.
3. Insured, delivery confirmation, and signature confirmation
4. Make sure to clean the surface. If it doesn't have near perfect centering don't submit.

Thank you for the quick response

3) What can I use to clean the surface without damaging or scratching? Is there any tools that you use to measure the centering?

Thanks
Ryan

You can use a ruler or scan the cards and count the pixels which is probably the best idea. I don't put that much time into checking the cards out. I just try to weed out obvious flaws in corners/edges and let BGS do the rest. Submit with a minimum grade if you are submitting newer cards

It means they will only slab the card if it meets a minimum grade you select. A lot of newer chrome cards do not sell for more if graded lower than a 9 so slabbing them if they grade 8.5 or lower decreases the value

The BGS website has pretty good instructions on how to package the cards safely. Also, if they are PC cards and you still want them slabbed for protection you can use minimum grade and if it does not meet that ask to have them authenticated. You're paying to have it graded anyway, so if it isn't something you're going to sell then I'd get it authenticated.

Terrible advice for a new submitter. How can you learn if you don't see what the card was graded and what areas were graded what?

Do your best to look the card over front and back(with a loupe if possible). Look for obvious flaws and check for finger prints. Send the cards you think will get a 9 or better in all four categories. Dfinitely check out the Beckett website in the grading area, they have what you need for each grade.

Good luck!

Might as well send it by armored truck

Personally, I use a loupe and all, but I don't go nuts and use a ruler and all that to measure centering. I'm a little like the last guy, I let the graders do their jobs. If you look at the grading criteria on the website, even a 9.5 doesn't have to be 100% perfect in every way. It's pretty easy to tell (for me at least, maybe I just have a decent eye) whether or not a card is centered well enough to be a 9.5. I go through my cards, and weed out everything that isn't 9.5 worthy by looking at the basics: centering and sometimes corners. If the centering is awful (like one of my whole cases of 07 BDP, everything was 75-25 LR) then I just don't bother. For the ones that make the cut, I then take a closer look. If I'm sure at least two of the criteria look 9.5 worthy, I'll usually send those in.

In all, I recommend taking a look at your cards and try to eliminate all the ones with obvious flaws. For a rookie grader, I would recommend sending in ones that you may be unsure about. Then when you get it back, you will see what worked and what didn't. It took me awhile to figure out what a 9.5 for edges looked like, so I submitted a few different cards, they got varying grades and it cleared it up for me.

Look at front AND back for centering. If you have a mnimumgrade of 9.5 the centering alone can fail you. Eyeball it! Look at front and back for corners as well. It is $2 extra for autos and you definately want to get insurance. If you submit cards with an insured value of $1500 you are looking at $20+ for shipping. You don't have to use card savers, it is just recommended.

If you are planning on using the new code I believe it is a 50 card minimum!!!

I personally grade for future sale and therefore don't want any cards graded lower than a 9. If they dont grade I look at the card after i receive it back and either i notice a flaw i missed or they include a sticker with a circle on the part that messed up the grade.

Hi guys,

New to the site and this is my first post.

Questions:

1) What is the code for the 50 min cards for $5 each for 20 days? I was just on their website and it says $2 off any service. If you have the code please let me know, I am looking to send in a grading order. I realize it doesn't give free delivery like the BGS site offer states, but I rather send in 50 than 100. I was expecting some coupons in my last BGS shipment I just got back.....all I got were shattered cases, thanks BGS.

2) Centering on cards. Someone mentioned scanning the card and counting the pixels. I have more time than money and would be willing to do so if someone could explain what they mean and give me some direction.

3) thank you to anyone who can help!

Eric

I have never done the measuring pixels thing but might before my next submission. All i can assume is that you scan the card then open it in photoshop/paint and count the number of "squares" on each side.

I think you have to be signed up for some sort of Beckett promotion.

There should just be a 5-7 character code you can put in on the submission form. Even after I complained that I received a smashed order and was told a week before that they are putting coupons in the returned orders, they never offered me anything close to this deal.

I bet if you complained even more they would send something
