my family and i made our annual pilgrimage to angels spring training in tempe, az. usually we go earlier in the spring but my nephew's spring break from ucla pushed us back a little bit. autos are a little harder to come by since by now, most of the lower level minor leaguers have already been reassigned. add to that the fact that most of the big guys practiced inside the stadium. anyways, we had a great time. here was our haul...

-jered weaver
-jeff mathis
-jason bulger
-bobby wilson
-gary patchett
-alexei armista
-robb quinlan
-reggie willits
-matt palmer
-peter bourjos
-sean o'sullivan
-freddy sandoval
-brian stokes

my nephews managed to land torii hunter and scott kazmir inside the stadium. i could have got them as well but i always let the kiddies filter in ahead of me...i guess nice guys do finish last  i did pick up a nice angels red alternate jersey at the souvenir stand for $40. after the game, we went out to showtime sportscards. last year, i had some luck digging through the commons and found a handful of pablo sandoval 06 bowman heritage rookies for .20 ea. today i went through a few more boxes and picked these up for $4...

Hey Bill, did you see any old Angels at ST? Just wondered if any of the retired guys ever show up and hang out.

Re: 1st day in Tempe...

Wish I could have gone out there this year. Started school in Feb. and that prevented me from going to AZ.

Angelswin posted that Salmon's book signing has been canceled but I hear he's supposed to sign in Brea in April at a book store.

Good luck on your auto quest the rest of the week. Season ticket holder again this year so I'm pretty much set for the year. Sold my opening day tickets and trying to sell a lot of the other games if I can. Let me know if you or your sister need any seats this year. I have a pair in Terrace All Star 226 and can get an additional pair next to me if you need 4 seats together.

Re: 1st day in Tempe...

sounds good dave...i am sure we'll be in touch. went back today and the autos of players which we didn't yesterday were few and far between. we did manage to get these guys...

kevin jepsen
matt palmer
freddy sandoval
dino ebel
joel pineiro
peter bourjos
jason bulger
jered weaver
cory aldridge
trevor reckling 8-)
ryan budde
bobby wilson

once again, my youngest nephew scored as he got bobby abreu on his mini bat. torii was signing a few feet from us but it got crazy so he passed over our group. next year, i may just skip out on the big league games and hit up the pre game signing and the minor league complex. it's a much more laid back atmosphere and there is plenty of room for the kiddies to roam. we scouted it out today and got a game plan for next spring. on a related note, i may bring something for the opposing team to sign as well. the team the cubbies fielded on the AA field was sick; vitter, jackson, flaherty, castro and ryan sandberg was their manager  all in all, it was a good time.

Salmon has a house up by a buddy of mine in Flagstaff. We played golf with him one day, he's a cool dude...
