There was a similar thread to this about "plate proofs" looks like the others where it is just a chrome card that is soaked in hot wayer and the back is peeled off. Junk.

Thanks for the quick replys. I should have looked more thoroughly through old posts as now that you mention it I do recall something about home-made "proofs" produced by soaking cards in various solutions.

Will definitely avoid that auction!

The seller is a well known seller of fake "proof" cards. I would stay away from anything he sells.

Then he photoshops the card to make it look like a negative. In hand, the card looks silver with a faint outline of the picture.

so, let me see if I understand this.
this particular seller can sell $2,585.53 worth of modified without disclosure cards to 149 people this month
and nothing can be done about it?
 and who worries about 5 star shipping again?

Wow, didn't realize how gullible some people are - $129 for one of these things? Thats unreal...

ljbiggestfan2 has been scamming people with these for a long time. I asked him for a sheet pic as he claims he gets sheets of these and cuts them. Sent a far away pic of 9 or so cut cards that were side by side. I used to report these to ebay, about 50 (ebay never pulled one) of them and when you could see ebay names, I would inform winners. Some rec'd a refund, 10 or so, that I'm aware. A drop in the bucket though. Winners can still be contacted (thru fb rec'd or left) but I feel it's impossible to stop him and very time consuming informing winners as I used to max out on ebay messages allowed daily. Also worried I would get kicked off ebay for auction interfearance or something eventually.

If you are up for a new track, the slimebag is claiming to be an eBay Power Seller even though he is not. That might get eBay's attention a bit more than hundreds of their customers getting screwed. Sad, eh?

I think it's his wording that avoids ebay from pulling them:
"These are similar to a printing plate, but are considered proofs"
He uses the word "similar" to skirt the printing plate issue. But it's a flat out lie that they are considered proofs.

In case anyone is interested, here's the seller's reply to my question asking for more info about the card:

Dear olerud363,

Thanks for your interest. I actually picked up several full sets of these proofs from a former Topps design engineer that I know. There are different version of these plate proofs, but I only have this color/varation of this one. I do have other Olerud ones, but not sure if I want to break up the full sets yet. I've had several people ask me to, so if the price is right I would do it.

These were used in the pre-production prototype stages when they were being designed. These were never issued into packs or to the public until now. I hope this helps.

I almost want to reply to him and call him out. I'd love to refer him to this thread and see what he says... ;)
Better just move on and not waste my time.

Thanks everyone!

I have won one of these proofs. The front is exactly the same as a "normal" card; the seller scans the back.
