Sorry if someone posted this already.

Looks like they're attempting to compete with Razor Letterman - it has a February release, yet is still a 2008 issue. Plus more draftees, including a few new names.

Never really been a fan of non-serialized base autos, but Contenders has a good reputation going for it in other sports. Hopefully there will be a few SP's as well. Oh, and hold the redemptions, please....thanks.

I wonder how this will interface with the contenders autos that have come out of 2008 prime cuts.

I believe the Prime Cut autos are considered "previews".

What's with the word "ROOKIE" splattered all over the card? Does that mean the guy completed rookie ball?

Not a fan of the design either.

I am starting to get the bad taste of prospecting in my mouth now that Donruss and Razor appear to be going full steam with RC laden products and taking some players away from Topps/Bowman---just seems like a huge overkill to me.....

So, no more prospecting for me---back to the HOFer/Star stuff.

What do you guys think about all of this???

it really does not matter what the MLBPA thinks about this.

Donruss sealed their fate with Joe Jackson and Pete Rose. Donruss will never have a license again, and I don't think they care.

Porcello went from having 1 card to having about 15 pretty fast.

Ironically, his few Topps cards will outsell just about all of his many Donruss cards.

+1. In the past few years everytime a product came out with prospect stuff, Bowman Chrome/Draft already had the same players and more so most people decided to stick with Bowman for whichever player the wanted as their best card. Now, it seems like these new products are getting exclusives of some players who you may want to collect and you cant just buy Bowman to go after some players your looking for. Nothing wrong with variety but something feels weird about all of these prospects being strewed about in numerous products now.

I can see both sides here. If a player gets hot his cards will go up whether he only has one or has 50. However, it's getting to the point that you won't have "the rookie card" for many players. With USA, Razor, Donruss, and Topps there are just too many options, and you probably won't see huge returns on any one card.

I like the look if they take "rookie" off of the cards.

I don't care about no serial number, after all do base chrome autos have serial numbers?

This is what we call overkill. Plenty of products to keep prices ultra-low. I think this was just enough to push me away from DLP for baseball.

+1---much better way of saying of what I was trying to say. I just dont see these cards yielding the big returns that the Chrome stuff would.....and it would be different if there was just one product such as Elite Extra Edition or SP Prospects to compete, but to have 10 different ones come out in the same year---it just doesnt work for me.

i'm with you on this one, i don't think they care. can you imagine the money they are making (saving) by not having to pay the MLBPA of MLB licensing fees.

Great observation--and why would they care...people are still buying the Baseball stuff just as always...they have found a loophole that is working for them....
