Happens every year w/products. List first or wait, listings die down for a bit, listings rise. Time it right (ex., between the 1st listing flood + the next but before it’s “dead” for an extended time) + you can do very well. Right now, most people are probably waiting for spring training hype.

I know a few of the guys I have been buying cheap I have stopped buying for 2 reasons.

First was getting tired of buying the card for $1.00, then paying $3.00+ shipping per.

Secondly, I think I have enough base of each, now looking for some of the lower numbered parallels. There are still alot of Low numbered Autos that have yet to be pulled I think.

It’s really not feasible w/ebay + paypal fees (+ supplies costs + time to list) to charge less than $3 shipping on a $.99 card.
Shipping costs (w/dc) on a 1 oz. card= 1.41
Ebay fees= .10 to list + .09 FVF
Paypal fees (depends on what your merchant rate is, so may vary)= .50
Bubble envelopes (depends on your supplier)= .07-.09

Toploaders/pennysleeves (depends on your supplier)- .02-.05

So from the $3.99 you paid, the seller nets about $1.80. If the seller drops shipping < $3, he/she is working for pennies.

I am doing fine with a $1.99 shipping fee. I know its Ebay and its BS, but technically you are not allowed to recoup fees by charging more for shipping.
I understand the cost, but I have gotten ALOT of envelopes lately that aren't using Paypal shipping, which would save people time and money with regards to printing and shipping from home. You have a computer to ship and list, why not be able to print and ship from home. Then I don't have to hear how much gas it cost you to get to the post office to ship or how much more expensive delivery confirmation is at the post office instead on online.

My point was, that charging over $3.00 seems excessive to me. It doesnt take that long to print a label.

I’m not saying ebay’s bs + some things (like gas LOL I never count that as a reason to justify my s/h) are costs of doing business. However, I think s/h is subjective…if $1.99 works for you, great. If someone like some of the larger sellers run 10k+ auctions/week + the bulk of them end @ .99, $1.99 s/h is going to kill their profit margin…which is probably why more + more large card sellers are leaving ebay. Fortunately, others are stepping up to fill the gaps, but outside of tntnorth, I don’t see many larger sellers offering s/h of $1.99.
So far, ebay hasn’t capped s/h in sports cards (they have in other areas I sell in) + most sellers can break down all their costs (bubble envelopes, packing peanuts, toploaders, cardboard, pennysleeves, tape, labels, printer ink, office supplies) in a way that has nothing to do w/recouping ebay/paypal fees where s/h of $3 (or even more) can easily be justified.
I use paypal shipping. The only time I go to the PO is for international/APO/heavy orders. I charge $3.50/card + I think it’s fair…especially as I CAP s/h @ $5 after you win 5+ items. Many times, I’ve only charged $5 s/h, won say 250 chromes, + actual s/h has been more. Guys like tntnorth who cap s/h @ $2-3 even if you win hundreds of cards lose $, but their average ending prices don’t seem to be significantly higher to justify lowering shipping to $2-3 total.
I figure my current setup is a win win for both buyers + sellers. Now that ebay doesn’t allow you to charge buyers for insurance, you’re eating the cost of insurance on high $ items, so say $3 shipping on a $1k card that you have to insure, get signature confirmation for, etc. is hardly going to net you a ‘shipping profit.’ Too many variables w/shipping to say what’s too high + what’s right.
As a buyer, if s/h’s too high (subjective imo), I don’t bid or factor it into my bid + bid lower.

From a buy side, the major point is to try your best to get combined shipping when possible.

Even when I was buying Kyle Gibson Autos at $6 per, adding another $3 is adding 50%.

I found that when I bought stuff on FCB I did really well as I was able to save sellers fees and they saved me on shipping.
