Re: 2009 Piece of History player break: 1/2 CASE BREAK 8 PM EST

Will scan everything tomorrow when the case is finished.

Highlights thus far:

Rocco Baldelli sick patch
Adam LaRoche sick patch
Curtis Granderson jersey/auto
(2) Mat Gamel autos - 1 #'d/99
Kila auto
Tuiasopopo auto
Bruce Lee robe

Also, just so everyone knows that wasn't there tonight, 9 of the 10 boxes we opened we were short a g/u card.

UD advertised "look for (2) MLB game used cards on average" and we were only getting 1 auto, 1 hollywood, and another g/u.

I'm looking into what I can do to either get replacements or something.

The bolded is the reason you will most likely get no replacements.

Yeah it's pretty crappy too. I haven't checked into other breaks yet to see if they were getting 2 MLB g/u cards per box or not.

If the majority is getting 2 per box, than I'll do what I can. If it's 50/50, I don't even know if it is worth the hassle.

On average is a useless way to cover a companies rear end. Across 20 boxes he should have been pulling approximately 40 MLB-Game Used. Unless he's going to go on a tear with 3 per box the rest of the way out on this case, that's not gonna happen (and it's very doubtful he will).

There are of course several missing stats UD would never release b/c they would actually be too helpful. The main one is the standard deviation. Is it 0.4, is it 2, or is it 4,000?

If I knew that 99% of the boxes had 2 game used versus 50%, we would better know if we are getting screwed here or if it is within reason to only be getting 1 per box. Ditto for every other company that uses the "on average" statistic on their products.

I will say that across a 20 box case, to get 21 game used when the "on average" stat is used and their should be 40 of them "on average", then he's been screwed and I'm fairly certain UD would take care of him. If they don't, Carl, let me know and I'll give you an email addy of someone at UD who will.

While it does say "on average" to protect the company more these days, I believe that is more to cover the individual boxes then when you break an entire case, you should see it pack out much closer than 1/2 of the suggested odds. I believe UD will certainly do something to compensate the shortage, what that it is will most likely be very little.

Maybe I was lucky, but when we did a Team Collectors break a few months back, we were shorted in every box of UD we had in the break. I sent them a letter indicating how we break boxes every month and provided them the link to our site if they wanted to check it out themselves. They would lose our business if they did not at least acknowledge the fact that they shorted us. I got the standard reply about the "average" is not a gaurantee, but they did send several GU's, Auto's and a few packs to make up for it. While there was nothing of value sent, it did make us feel a tad bit better about it.

You will need to send the wrappers and the UPC codes. I think with your video links, proof of purchase of the case from Blowout and a few UPC's and wrappers, you might be surprised at what they send back.

Looking forward to the rest of the breaks tonight!

I had an Exquisite redemption back in 2006 from SPx and they delivered a less than suitable replacement for it (I can't remember what it was at this time). I got a BS customer service experience and through persistance, I finally got through to someone at UD who actually gives a damn about the customer. I was actually ASKED what I'd like as a replacement. After two months of not being able to get an item of several players I requested, I was given a list of wax to chose from and was told to pick two boxes - they were stellar options to, ranging from all 4 sports.

I chose a box of 2007-08 SP Game Used Hockey and a box of 2006-07 SPx, hoping to hit a Crosby or Ovechkin rookie, but it didn't happen. I later reviewed the list and realized Ultimate Collection was also on there! ::facepalm::

Note, the exquisite card that I was due to receive and didn't get was a dual auto of Papelbon and Verlander. I think those two boxes had a combined value of about $350 at the time.

Also, not counting any g/u or autos, any Hollywood mem, or any History parallels...

In 10 boxes there are 113 #'d inserts already.

That's good to know...didn't see any Chipper parallels in the break. Hopefully tonight.

not a bad start so far, hopefully I can add some sort of McCann card (#'d or a jersey) to the Markakis jersey, also wouldnt mind a Fowler auto falling out of the remaining boxes
