I've been looking for an embossed Brett Butler buyback since the product was released and haven't seen one anywhere - I've checked the obvious places: eBay (including the description check box), COMC, sportlots and the Beckett Marketplace. Since I'm assuming that all players in the '89 set were purchased, embossed and released into the wild, what're the chances that 1) Upper Deck held some back as replacements, and 2) that they'd respond to a request to purchase one outright from them.

I'd say they would respond, but with total ignorance. There is about a -3% chance they'd sell you one outright.

I picked up a Will Clark on ebay for a minimum bid of like $1.95 a few months ago. I didn't think they were all that rare and it didn't seem like anyone else wanted it. I doubt people list them very often, maybe that's why its perceived as rare. I'll keep a look out for a Butler. I buy in bulk lots pretty often, so there could always be a chance one would surface.

I've wondered a few times how many of each were actually made.

I'm almost at a point now where I refuse to believe a single Dawson was ever released, even though it's on Beckett's checklist.

I also tried contacting them about something similiar but without any luck... I bought this when the set first released, I saw a few others, Tim Belcher and Roberto Alomar that I can remember. They were all 1/1's, but Beckett doesn't list these anywhere on the checklist that I can find. I wanted to know what other players had one...

I have both Eddie Murray cards. I think one of the Will Clark just not scanned.

Does anyone have an idea of a definitive checklist or print runs?

It's not like these were expensive for them to buy back.

I had no clue player collectors really were searching these out. When I won the Clark for next to nothing, I figured this was one of the many worthless sets out there. I guess I will have to look harder for these.

heck, if they want, I'll send 'em one of my spare Butlers, pay a nominal fee to have it stamped, and pay for return postage. Never thought finding a semi-worthless new release would be so difficult.

I don't have to dream about them ever making one of the my favorite cards growing up as a kid. I purchased the only one that I can recall ever surfacing on ebay.....Purchased it Christmas Day 2005....And this one will go to the grave with me.....Card # 1 in the 40 man Buyback McGwire Autograph set. Numbered 2/6
