I asked him to post pics/scans of some other cards in his set. I dunno how likely that is.

His whole story just sounds way too fishy to me.

1st it was a garage sale, then it was a swap meet...They were just in a 1990 UD factory set box...They've just been sitting on this guy's table...

A. I'm not defending this guy, but he said he bought it at a garage sale, but that he passes 90s UD complete boxed sets all the time at a swap meet.

Important part= Look For 20th Anniversary Signed Buyback Cards From The Biggest Stars From The Classic 1990 Upper Deck Baseball Set!

So maybe it is cheaper to just run the whole set through the stamping machine and then just keep the ones they really wanted to have autographed. It's not like UD was buying individual cards, so once the stamping is done they put it back in the original set box set. But since they lost the license and knew they couldn't distribute these they just said forget it and tossed them. Then the janitor goes out to the dumpster and picks up one of the whole stamped sets and sells for x amount of dollars at his yard sale?

Again not saying these are legit, but how hard would it be to find that foil stamp and forge a set?

He's taken a few more pics, so the set is starting to look a little more legit, but the story still smells.

Biggest stars from the 1990 set.

Pretty sure these are different from the stamped buybacks.

Did some looking for 2010 Upper Deck boxes. The only photo I can steal that says anything about buybacks was this one, where it is printed on the wrapper of each pack. (ignore the Beckett logo. gets in the way of what we're talking about)

Wrapper says Hobby in the top left, and buyback copy is on the bottom left.

Heads up guys....

Hey,

Just giving you a heads up that I have decided to move the Buybacks. I'm in Vegas for the Super Bowl, so maybe in the coming week or so.

I invited him to sign up here as well. So if he does, hopefully you player collectors can snag your players...

Good lord, he's going to make a killing. He probably didn't pay more than $20 for the set and he'll likely at least double his money on the first card he sells.

Hey FCB,

I wasn't aware this thread existed until this morning or else I would have signed up when the thread was fresh.

But, I can assure you that there is no "shenanigans". I have a complete set of these 1990 20th Anniversary Buybacks, that I picked up at a garage sale not the swap meet. When I brought up the swap meet, I meant I see the "regular" 1990 set quite often at the swap meet.

I took picture requests on the Beckett forum for specific players, here's the link:

I come across some really cool odd ball items from time to time, which is why I'm out at swap meets, yard/garage/estate sales every weekend. I don't really bust wax, so going out "picking" is how I build my PC.

Here's a couple pick ups from this past weekend:

PacBell Park Telephone (it does work)

So, are you selling the 90 Buybacks?

Yeah.

They're packed away right now, I'm moving.

Once I get everything settled I'll break out the bubble mailers and make some deals.

Remember, as much as folks want the stars--Griffey, Ripken, McGwire, etc., there are player collectors of the less than star guys--like me with Gary Gaetti--so don't discount any player as undesireable. Just keep us posted, please.

They were in a standard factory 1990 green box w/hologram stickers (funny), nothing to indicate it was anything significant, which is why I was going to pass.

I didn't think too much of it until I actually looked at the cards when I got home and began researching which led me to Brad's Rickey blog (via his 1989 buyback) and I sent him the picture of the card posted in this thread.

After no luck of finding any info, I tried to join BO forums but that took damn near a week and half to get activated so I joined Beckett instead to see if anyone could ID any 1990 buybacks.

A little over a month after bringing these up, I still haven't seen or heard another 1990 20th Anniversary card.

Welcome to FCB, I am alexs64 on Beckett, I am pretty sure I invited you to sign up here so you could see the interest your cards were getting. I hope you get settled in quickly to your new place and get some of these cards moved to player collectors.

Again, Welcome!!

Alex

Seeing those cards in his bucket..

I pulled one out of a box and I picked up an Edgar when they came out..

These were inserted in boxes (I pulled mine at the card shop I go to)..

I know I saw other guys pull them as well..

Good luck,
