I was hoping the Pacers would have picked up a point guard. I love Larry Bird as a player, but (being a native Hooiser, this is blasphemy), he is not much of a GM.

The window for title contention is about to close on this team, and they needed someone that can help right now instead of in 3 years. I also don't trust the Celtics recent track record for player development.
I'd say the window closed this year.
Allen most likely will not re-sign. Paul Pierce could opt out of his contract a la Dirk Nowitzki.
Rasheed retiring, Garnett looking old.
The boat has sailed.

He weighed in at 290lbs recently and it will be interesting what weight he reports to camp at. I'm glad that the Kings took him so the Warriors couldn't. I like the Warriors pick of Udoh but I also liked Monroe.
It's funny because I get the feeling that he has the potential to be the guy that slips in the draft because of off the court issues and ends up getting his head straight and dominating.
I really hate the pick by the C's. Figured they'd either go for one of the bigs left on the board to fill in for Perk if he misses any time, or a more established player to make one last title run. Going for a backup pg that's barely played college ball isn't going to be a difference maker this year.

I watched Danny Aigne say that they got the only guy they wanted in the first round.......you must be kidding me.....the Celt's first round choices over the years 3/4 are in the 'all time bust' list. ::facepalm::
They should just give away their pick for a bag of balls, they are going to give the player away for less anyways.

I haven't like their drafting the last couple years but saying their last 3-4 years are all time busts is crazy.
Not including trades:
Lester Hudson (pick 58) - Can you really expect anything from this pick?
JR Giddens (pick 30) - End of the first round, didn't work out but no one expected him to be great
Semih Erden (pick 60) - Can you really expect anything from this pick?
Gabe Pruitt (pick 32) - beginning of 2nd round, didn't work out but no one expected him to be great
Rajon Rondo (pick 21) - Great pick
Gerald Green (pick 18) - Bust, but still a mid 1st round pick that wasn't expected to be great (helped get KG)
Ryan Gomes (pick 50) - Great pick
Orien Greene (pick 53) - Can you really expect anything from this pick?
Year before Gomes they drafted Jefferson, West, and TA which were all great picks.

People are really sleeping on Avery Bradley.
How much I hate to say this, outside of TJ Ford, Coach Barnes has hurt the chances of EVERY point guard Texas has had over the last 10 years or so, by focusing on small power forwards and small forwards who don't have a true position. Had he let the offense flow more often through Bradley, he definitely would have been taken higher.
I think he was a great pick for the Celtics, but really wish he could have landed somewhere that he could get major minutes (IE: Indiana, Miami).
As for the Celtics - I've been hearing all signs point to Allen taking a shot at one more title somewhere else. Obviously, it's not set in stone, but they did shop him at the deadline so i'm not 100% sure Danny will bring him back anyways (especially since he really only had one good game in the finals). I feel the same about Pierce, but you never know if the Nets or Bulls make a godfather type offer to him, he may bolt to play there (Chicago obviously if they don't land LeBron). As for the Clemens & Garnett comparison...isn't that what they basically did this year? He still didn't seem that great after the 2nd rd. I will say, though, I hope they can land someone with Rasheed's expiring contract, just because I want to see Rondo continue to flourish as the 3rd best point guard in the game (yes, 3rd...only CP3 and Deron are ahead of him in my opinion).

Rickzcards said:This years draft was one of the weakest I've seen in a long time. A lot of the draftees I have barely even heard of. There will probably be a few surprises but overall it was just a weak class.
KOBEARODLT said:strongest since 03? really? well lets see here...
04-05 is better: dwight howard, josh smith, al jefferson, ben gordon, andre iguodala, devin harris, jameer nelson
05-06 is better: two best point guards in the league cp3 and dwill alone make this class better, bynum, nate robinson, david lee, bogut
06-07: not a great draft but i think its still better than this one..i dont see any player outside of wall being as good as brandon roy, rondo and lamarcus aldrige
07-08: durant is the only name that needs to be said, he alone is better than this whole draft class together
08-09: rose, mayo, westbrook,
09: jennings, curry, evans, collison
im sorry but i think every class after 03 has been better than this one, obviously we wont know untill the season starts but this was pretty bad

I too disagree. I would say it's not as "Top Heavy" with future All-Stars, but I do feel it's a very deep draft. I also think this is the first draft that teams are being rewarded for taking players who are staying in school. There is alot of talent in the late 1st round, and even into the 2nd Round.
Instead of untested foreigners and just raw athletes, I think teams are now taking the more polished players even if their "upside" is lower.
