Thanks everyone for your opinions. I will keep you all updates as to what I find out. Ya know, I've been out of card collecting for a number of years, mostly did it as a kid when cards like this weren't made. I'm 33 years old now with a son of my own that is getting excited about this sort of stuff. This is my first year back into it and It's pretty exciting to pull a card like this. It's never happened to me before and yes I still get giddy when I pull a relic card, lol. This is a whole new world to me and it's pretty cool.
And for anyone who still doesnt understand or thinks these types of SP cards are "dumb", read the above again.
These cards get people actually looking and reading their base cards. In other words, interested in something other than a GU or auto. These cards turn a worthless card (and player) into a 10 page thread on here and other boards bringing FREE press to Topps and the hobby and theres nothing wrong with that. In fact, thats what is needed.
And I TOTALLY agree with what Jaypers said about 100 pages back when he mentioned there should be cards like this in Bowman. Ive been saying that for years but Tops listens to no one...except MLB.
I wont be shocked if once word spreads, there becomes a ton of listings on ebay as people discover they have this variation in their common bins. Kind of like 1989 Fleer with Billy Ripken after everyone went through all their commons (not saying this is at all as common for sure).
But when it comes down to it, a hobby should be fun first and foremost. When its totally, 100 percent profit driven, that quickly leads to nothing. Out and looking for another investment vehicle.
I used to have the following tag on my BMB sig, I think its time I add it to my current one:
ENJOY THE BEST HOBBY IN THE WORLD!
