Anyone think this product could be a hit? I am not sure if I want to order a few cases of it or pass.

Heres my thoughts:

I think they are totally leaving out a very important factor with this product, Chromies.

The cards are all base Topps quality with no Chrome cards. Yes theres parallels but you tell me, do Bowman parallels get any love? Do Bowman base cards get much love?

Combine the above two factors with minor league uniforms and I dont think this will be too successful. Granted, IP auto sekers will vote it POY but for investors, it wont do well.

I havent looked at the auto CL since it came out but I dont recall many autos really "taking me" as in "Ooooooh, those will carry the product."

But heres the thing, Stras has been signed and eventhough Topps hasnt made mention where he will be in, you would expect he will be in this product (maybe even in both series) and that will certainly help boost this issue.....for a while.

He'll be in some Bowman issue and once those hit, you can bet the house his base minor league cards will fold like a cheap tent. And if he has an auto in Bow/BC issue, everyone will forget he was even in the minor league issue.

Now, maybe Topps is planning a Chrome series featuring the best of both series and if that happens, guess which product will suffer?

Heres the best case scenario: Stras has an auto in series one Topps Minor League and wont have another auto until Summer's Bowman Chrome. For anyone who will get eavily invested in this product, thats the best outcome.

Thats also assuming that Topps still has to play by the rules and cant issue a Stras card until he makes the Majors (excpet Bowman products) because if they can get around this rule, he will have an auto in nearly every MLB issue and base card too which will kill his minor league stuff.

It will be hard to get Stras in a MILB licensed product when he hasn't appeared in MILB games yet.

I know minor league wax was never an earthshattering product in the past, but has it ever had an extensive auto CL? What if they only make 50 or a hundred numbered Stras autos? I dunno, but if this ship sails I expect to miss it lol :-(

Based on all released information this product shouldn't have more than ~550 cases. ( 1 relic per box, 6,468 relics on the CL) For rippers that should mean a logoman, futures game patch book, futures game flag relic or /5 jumbo futures game patch falling 1 every 2 cases. Add in the 27 autos per case and I think the product has potential.

I'm not risking my house on it but I'm in for my share. If they change the CL at the last minute and double production my tune will change.

I wonder if leaving #200 - 220 TBD had anything to do with Stas? I understand the problem with adding a non-MiLB player to the MiLB product, but I'm not ruling it out. Could he be added as a mystery redemption? Add the top 20 rookie minor league prospects once they have made their MiLB debut. Wasn't this done with Finest as players made it to the majors?

Completely agree with the Chrome comments. At least the parallels and inserts should have been Chrome IMO.

As an investment, I don't expect much out of it, as it now stands. As an autograph collector, I'll buy a few boxes to have cards for autographs.

It will be no different then a TriStar product but with the topps logo.

From what i remember of the design, TriStar looks better.

Oh yeah, Topps will have one in a million patches though.

I was thinking on this earlier and do people even want all that fancy crap from their first-year card product?

I think Bowman succeeds because it gives you a rookie card, and a couple variations. When it comes to rookie cards, the simplier and more *stackable* the better.

Guh.

What does "more stackable" mean? Easier for those holding cards and wanting IP autos??

Yah, stackable's a terrible work but the point is simple parallels that fit together with easily recognizable value.

The card distribution should be built like a pyramid -- like refractors.

Since they don't insert 100% of what is produced into packs we have to take each company at their word when they quote insertion rates. But with some products I go ahead and run the numbers anyway.

Thought I would share my expectations of Topps 2010 Pro Debut. Excel / PDF
