The Topps twitter guy is now answering questions.

For everyone --

@toppscards Bowman Prospect Autograph are retail-only products. Bowman Chrome Prospect autos are hobby-only.

As we expected.

Harper will have an on-card, non-chrome autograph that will be included in hobby and retail sku's of '11 Bowman.

Means less autos in hobby,

Retail gets a massive bump, hobby, not so much.

Two things:

As long as there are multiple outlets to buy products from, Topps will continue to put different promotions out there to entice us to buy at multiple locations. This is good business on their part and it's not going to change.

Jumbo boxes... There will be better odds at pulling Autographs, better odds on pulling anything Harper... price going down on these is not happening. Did anyone else notice how fast Andrew sold out his Jumbo group breaks on here??

With that autograph checklist(specifically who was added), this product is not going to go up. That leaves only two options-it will hold its' value, or drop.

If I was invested into cases that were pre-ordered, I would be pretty upset right now-that autograph checklist is pretty darn weak, wow. Anyone who had hopes of anything close to 2010 Bowman will be very, very disappointed.

Not true. I know for a fact the majority of Harper autos will be in Hobby/Jumbo.

Only a small portion will be inserted in Retail. Hence the longer odds.

How is what I said not true? Even if its a minimal amount in retail, it still means less in hobby. What I said is 100% true.

2011 Bowman retail should blow 2010 Bowman retail out of the water,

Chrome Harper's and parallels,
Pineda's first auto
Harper autos

The rack packs and blasters should be a hot commodity.

Unless you know the print run of Harper's autos, as well as Topps' gameplan for their insertion, there's no way to substantiate your claim.

JP, you seem like a smart dude but if there is autos in retail that means there will be less autos in hobby.

JP is right guys. His point is that none of us know the print run of the base autos and how they plan to insert them.

If there was 1000 last year then there was 1000 in Hobby/Jumbo.

This year they may have 2000 base autos and put 1,750 in to Hobby/Jumbo and 250 in retail. This shows that even though there are autos in retail does not mean there is less in Hobby/jumbo. Could there be.....absolutely but we do not know for sure amd that is what JP is saying.

Never claimed to be smart. However, if Topps cranked the presses up enough, there could conceivably be more Harper autos inserted into Hobby/Jumbos than there were Strasburgs last year (whose autos weren't in Retail at all).

My initial post was meant to compare last year's insertion rates to this year's.

If the blue /250 is inserted in retail as the sell sheet states, then yes, there are less Harper autos in hobby because they are placed in retail.

I agree that this is a plus for retail and a minus for hobby, but it's still too early to say anything. We just don't know what's going to happen until the pack odds are released. Should be really interesting these next few weeks. 12 more days!!! Also, doesn't retail sometimes release before hobby in some markets? Hide your kids...hide your wives...

Haven't stated print run yet on base.

I see what your saying JP, but still based on the /250 being in the retail, they're still taking some away from hobby.

I think blasters/retail boxes/jumbo racks are going to have great value this year.

I'm not so upset with this news of stuff being in retail...but what does upset me...

PACKSEARCHERS!!!

I can't knowingly buy packs from Target or Walmart anymore after seeing the low lifes that frequent them. If I'm not there on Day 1 or if they are not in a sealed box, I'm not buying it.

Good luck everyone...should be interesting. LET THE GAMES BEGIN.

I will empty the shelves of rack packs in east texas. I did VERY well with those last year

So slightly off topic, in your opinion, what are the top 5-10 cards/autos (retail and hobby) you are hoping to pull?

1. Harper
2. Pineda
3. Belt
4. ?
5. ?
6. ?
7. ?
8. ?
9. ?
10. ?

I seriously believe you underestimate Bryce Harper and what the average collector will pay for his first MLB card and autograph. It will not be as good as 2010... but jumbo's definitely have not peaked.

I am glad Hellickson finally got a Chrome Auto. It took only 5 years since his Chrome Prospect card! I can't believe there won't be a Chrome Auto of Pineda though. The Retail Bowman Prospect Auto's are usually saved for guys that already have autographs. I agree this will add to Retail sales, but Topps should have put him in both since he doesn't have an auto yet.
