2012-2013 NCAA Hockey Thread

UMD moved up in the standings since I last checked.

Still be a couple years until I'm in Duluth, but I like to keep up with their team.

Sent for what?

Goalie got ran into by a couple of Badgers, and apparently grabbed one of their mask and it came off. So they gave him a 5 minute major for face masking. So they send him to the box, along with another player, and the backup goalie comes in, so it's a 5o on 4 then. After the 5 minutes the normal skater can go back out, but goalie has to wait til the next whistle. Our backup killed the 5 minute major, but unfortunately they scored on him shortly after.

I cracked a few packs of Score hockey today. Pulled a Mike Connelly RC. UMD alum. I'll send him the card tomorrow and ask him to sign it.

UAH accepted it's invitation and will now be a part of the WCHA.

No more DI independent teams next year.

Tomorrow be Hockey Day Minnesota.

I don't know what games I plan on watching. I'll have the TV on for most of the day, but as to what ones I pay attention too and when will be decided as I go along.

Anyways, UofM against NoDak tomorrow afternoon. I have to check on the other MN teams.

I never knew the two had a rivalry. That's great that I'll get to see it first hand next year. I was upset at the departure of SCSU, UMD, UofM, and UND, so this will help ease the pain a bit.

I'm glad the nWCHA finally let UAH in. Was going to be really sad to see a D1 hockey program die when there are already so few compared to other sports.

Well I'll be watching the live stream from Alaska Anchorage tonight and tomorrow night as the Mavs are playing up there. And tomorrow night the gf and I are going to some club college hockey: UTSA vs Texas State. They would get destroyed by D1 teams, but you can tell they're having a blast, so it's fun to watch

UAH is the only DI college hockey program in the south, so in my opinion, it made it that much more important to accept them in. It sounds like when they get good, their fans can really get behind them.

I guess Penn State was an ACHA DI (club) team before they decided to go to the NCAA, so there is some quality hockey in there. No DI teams in Minnesota though, they are all DII.

I actually have a friend who plays in the ACHA DIII down in Nebraska.

UofM unofficially beats UND. It's 5-1 in the third, so I'm just going to give it to them. I'd watch the rest of the game but I have to go to bed.

BSU lost to Michigan Tech 4-0

I had to be up for a baseball autograph signing today so I couldn't stay up too much later.

I'm watching HDM coverage right now. I'll be out on the lake next year for this.

I like the cold! Don't know if I could handle that though... They had to shovel the ice part way through the first period of the second game because a ton of snow flew in.

Grand Rapids beating BSM in OT was epic... Probably the HDM highlight of the day.

Yeah that was a great game, loved watching the weather, looked so bitter cold! Went out to eat after that, had to turn the AC on in the car

Gophers/Sioux game is turning out to be pretty entertaining, going to OT!

I was watching the Wild and Avalanche, but I switched it to DU and SCSU. It's the only other DI game in Minnesota this evening. They are up 4-0

I'm just looking at the upcoming WCHA schedule.

MSU-Mankato vs. Minnesota is going to be quite the matchup. I want to see the Mavs take down #1. If they can do it, they are going to be serious come tournament time.

UNO at BSU is going to be one that I plan to watch. I think BSU is all but out this year. Hopefully they can revamp next year.

As much as I'd like to see the Mavs beat the Gophs again this year, I don't think it's going to happen. We looked really sloppy against Wisconsin, and were terrible against Alaska on Friday night. Saturday was a bit better, but Gophers are red hot right now. We'll see what happens though, but I'm expecting 2 losses, and maybe a couple of blowouts unfortunately.

So, I'm just looking over some details for the Hockey City Classic, and to be honest, I don't see it being a success at all.

I don't understand the point of it either. Is it supposed to be the NCAA's Winter Classic?

I see there is supposed to be a big festival to go along with it, but I don't see anything that suggests this will get more than 5-6,000 people at most.

It could do ok, there was a game in 2006 between Ohio State and Wisconsin that drew over 40,000 fans at Lambeau Field. Obviously attendance was boosted by being in one of the teams home states. Not sure how good of a town Chicago will be for NCAA hockey, could just end up being crappy attendance like some of the NCAA tournament regional games.
