2012-2013 NCAA Hockey Thread

I'm watching the state tourney and they keep playing commercials for something "BIG" coming to Minnesota hockey wise.

I guess the NCHC tournament is going to be at the Target Center this upcoming season. I might have to catch a game because I think it'd be an interesting set-up.

I also heard somewhere that NCAA DI Minnesota teams will form their own tournament? That would be fun to see.

I'm switching back between Bemidji/UM and the MSHSL tourney, but Bemidji is hanging in there.

Sam Windle's brother, Tom Windle, also hurled a no-hitter for the Gophers not too long ago. Kinda cool trivial information.

The NCHC can suck it... I hate everything about that league, I don't think it's good for college hockey in the least bit. Don't even get me started on them

And yeah, next January there will be a Minnesota tournament with 4 of the 5 Minnesota D1 teams at the Xcel. Gophers are always in it as they host, and then 1 team will sit out each year, but the team that sits out will have the Gophers come in and play a 2 game series during the regular season. For the first year the Beavers sit out. There's no official name for it yet, but a lot of people are calling it the Minnesota Cup. I'll probably start coming up for that each year now the the Final Five as we know it will done.

Tough loss for the Mavs tonight against the Whioux, sounds like they played their asses off though and fought til the end. Hoping they can pull off a win tomorrow night.

Was rooting for Bemidji to win tonight as well, tough loss for them too as I thought they played a good game.

I don't like the NCHC either. I really liked having all the Minnesota teams (and NoDak) in the WCHA. I think it really intensified the competition between all the teams.

But, being in Bulldog country next year, all I'll hear about is the NCHC, and I'll probably just be able to see NCHC teams.

Well the Mavs ended up in a 3 way tie for 4th place in the WCHA... quite the turn around from last year! We tied with Denver and Wisconsin, and even though we owned a head to head tiebreaker with Wisconsin in every way possible, with the 3 way tie, we came out on the bottom of that. It works for me though, we get the 6th seed and home ice for the playoffs, first time in 5 years. With that, we host the UNO Mavericks, who has been falling pretty hard lately. Their all-time record in the WCHA for March is 1-12-0, so hopefully that doesn't change anytime soon! Hopefully the Mavs can knock them off and make it to the Final Five. I fly into Minnesota this Friday, so I am getting tickets for the Saturday night playoff game in Mankato!

I think I can say with certainty that the Mavericks will win.

Ah gotcha, yeah I have a few of his cards as a Blues. I've mostly got all my Mavs cards sorted now, but probably won't have time to scan them before I leave for Minnesota on Friday. Will be a good project for when I get back!

I don't know a ton about college hockey cards. I have a ton from the Goofers in the late '90s that I got in a grab bag. I know Lucia has a card in one of those sets. I wish more schools would print them up, but it costs money.

I loved going through the rinks. Gives me a lot to look for in Duluth. The site needs a content update but I'm sure that will come with the re-launch.

Did you ask them on Twitter about the 90's - 00's jsys? Someone did.
