Man, I was really close to making a move on collecting the autograph set. I love sets serial-numbered to jerseys and this seems like a real sweet deal. With only 70 cards on the auto checklist it seemed feasible. Then I saw someone listed a Billy Ripken #/3 at $700 and probably wouldn't drop to where it really should be (I was thinking $200) it would be much tougher. Then when I started figuring out the jersey numbers and saw Ozzie on it, I knew it was an abortive operation. No way would I outbid a Smith/Cards fan for a 1/1 auto, and I would really feel bad about having a hole in the set. With multiple #/1 guys, it's too painful.

Re: 2012 Leaf Memories Big Hit Tracker - Update: Frank Thomas 1/1 Buyback

The Frank Thomas autos /35 are selling for 2-3X more than a nice PSA 90 RC auto ever would.
I don't understand.

If these buyback RC autos start getting g graded (high) they could potentially sell for even more.

Thats me with the ripken /3... I just thru that out there cause its his jersey # and none has surfaced yet. I'll be lowering the price pretty soon.

Yes, one way to scare off bidders is stupid high bins.

Start it at 99 cents. Let Will Clark bidders fight it out and let market decide the price. My guess is it ends in $350-$400. Sweet payday for that pull.

The guy who pulled the 1/1 Ozzie Smith buyback auto that is on Ebay. Claims he had multiple offers of over 2,000 for it on bo. It's on Ebay now and he is not taking offers it looks like now. Why you wouldn't take an offer that high on it is beyone me. Here is aution he has now.

Agreed. I took a look at the Gwynn 1/1 and saw the price was 450 obo and just laughed. I've bought nice gwynn gu patch 1/1 for under a hundred. Why would a plain jane 1/1 stamp on a 25 cent base card go for any more?

In my moderately educated opinion the BIN is a bit too high. Something in the $500-$700 range may have been better as an aggressive collector might have been tempted to overpay just to get the card in hand. Still, a collector aggressive enough to pay a few hundred bucks for that card probably won't be scared off by the BIN price.

The only thing crazier than offering $2K for that Ozzie would be to turn that offer down.

It's the NEW thing on eBay... start the auction with a redic high BIN and then let people make offers... honestly, I think sellers get a premium on their cards but they should seriously make the BIN something not stupid high...

Honestly I hate this practice.... I say start at $0.99 and let it ride but that's just me.

Dave Justice buyback autos are getting some nice coin.

Probably because he hasn't been in a hobby release forever right? Collectors of his haven't had anything new to go after forever right?

This is why I think Topps and the like are stupid for not putting out a set with like '90s throwbacks or '90s fan favorites... it'd get all these player collectors back into the hobby... similar to how Belle was reintroduced to the hobby back in 2011... got me back into it.

I honestly think Topps will have some kind of 90's throwback product in the next year or two. They are probably running out of ideas for retro products, and seeing the success of Leaf Memories, a 90's retro product would be the next logical choice for Topps.

Haven't they already begun so with the Fan favorite autos this year with more coming next year? Guys like Ray Lankford and Wally Joyner popping up. Collectors have been calling for a return of Fan Favorites for a while, now if they'd just expand the checklist for those inserts....

Yeah the Archives product and FF autos are a start, but I'm thinking a full fledged product using various past Topps brands/insert designs/technologies from the 90's lumped together, featuring past and present players, rather than just bringing back any one brand.
