Is the Rize name even trademarked? It seems to me that I'd want a trademark of my product's name and a copyright of the design elements on the card. The sole presence of the Leaf copyright on the card indicates that Leaf designed all aspects of these cards. This doesn't make any sense.

Anywhere Delta goes.
In my book these are Leaf cards. It says Leaf on the back. That would be like saying Bowman cards are not ultimately Topps since it says Topps on the back.

I want to like Leaf and would like to see them succeed. They put out some nice products that I frequently buy, but they junk up the Leaf name with garbage like this. Then we get the explanation that they just licensed out the names, but they have copyright on the card backs. So one of the following has happened

Leaf is Lying
Leaf wanted their name on the cards because of the licensing (why you would put your name on this junk is beyond me)
This release went through the most brutal quality control ever and they missed Leaf's name being on the back
The Rize company is separate and has infringed on the Leaf copyright

Last comment on the subject:

The copyright line was necessary due to (a) licensing and (b) we commissioned the print job for him.

We did not design, choose players, market in any way these cards.

We merely provided services to them.

Anything else is merely speculation (which would be false)...

I do thank you guys for pointing his ok a we are notified Rize if the violation of our mark and it is being immediately corrected.

BG

Ps-trademarking a name is just registering rights you have the first time you use a name.. I know this because one of the major comapnies has just violated our rights and we are considering our options..

Brian, I believe your explanation but a few things:

Having the Leaf name on the back will give people the perception this product was produced/distributed by Leaf, in spite of everything you said.

If Rize is indeed just some cheap Just Minors type knockoff set, it will detrimentally affect the perception of Leaf cards as a whole because of the above.

With that in mind, perhaps Leaf shouldn't be licensing players and commissioning print jobs for other company's cards.

Twenty years ago, classic used to do the same thing.

They would sell rights of guys under contract to other small companies. The classic logo or tag line would be on the back with no mention of them on the front.

Sounds like the same is being done, big whoop.

These cards are garbage; they actually make that Onyz junk look decent. Leaf should be embarassed to have their name associated with this product in any capacity, and I can only hope that this was caused by some kind of mind-altering drugs and not a sober business decision. If these cards were women, I wouldn't XXXX them with a stolen ****.
