Not buying this for a second. It's probably someone's fantastical idea of what should happen with Topps 2012. Doesn't sound anything like the BS that they put on display a month ago - unless that was just some carrot they stuck out there to guage collector reaction.

Also... "However, there will be one additional insert. The insert is designed to give collectors an incentive to collect all 7 series."

incentive to collect all 7 series?? Completing the set is the incentive!

If MLB Properties limited Topps to just one set...

Sort of like...

I always thought it would be fun to have 6+ series like the olden days. But when Topps split the base set into 2 series plus an update set in the 90s, even then it seemed boring, like,"Oh, yeah, base Topps again," given all the other sets out at the time. With this, it could be better, or much, much worse. A complaint people had this year was that there was too much of a gap between products, and then there'd be 2 or 3 right in a row. With this method, you could always have something on the horizon. I don't know what sort of rules Topps operates under, but if they were to do this it could be a huge hit. Especially in 2017 or so, when that one FYC they snuck into series 5 that everyone underordered because no one cared any longer, becomes the new Albert Pujols, or Dan Uggla, at least. Or it could be just a reason for people to complain about 6x as many dead, valueless boxes.

Kinda doubting it, though. That blog post was 6 weeks ago and no one's mentioned it here till now?

One major reason it won't work is because, frankly, there isn't enough room on Wal-Mart and Target shelves for 6 individual products from Topps' bas set.

Aren't they doing something "drastic" for 2012?
Isn't it supposed to revolutionize the way baseball cards are?

Chris Judd posted this idea about a year. The blog post sounds like a rip off of his idea.
