It's like turning trash into treasure! What a way to take junk 80s/90s Leaf commons and turn them into gold by stamping a low serial number on them. I have always liked the buyback programs as a fun way to get more cards of a player when things get stale, but I think that 80s and 90s Leaf is still a bit too new to be buyback material.

One thing though, this will create a great new chase for collectors of those players with junk Leaf cards.

The Recollection-like autographs are cool and will be a hit. So far, I see several big names (Thomas, Henderson, Ripken, Clemens, Murray, Carew, etc). Going to be an interesting issue.

I read about this stuff being released soon. After reading your post I did my players search and scored an O'neill numbered to /5 BIN. Probably paid to much but I slept on last years release and only saw (1) of the numbered to 5 cards and that one got scooped up with a Buy It Now. Anyone have a checklist on this stuff to see who signed?

The Buybacks for '91 Leaf are pretty well junk. '90 Leaf was iconic and I did great with it, but I listed 6 '91 buybacks on ebay on release day and ended sunday night. 3 of the /5 sold for .99, the other 3 including a 1/1 didn't even sell at .99. The buyback autos are another thing and they did really well. The value in this break wasn't the non-auto buybacks and it's not even part of the strategy unless you hit a Bonds or Will Clark or someone super collectible.

"If you ever want to see your redemption card again, buy Leaf..."

He's right though. Leaf actually fulfills redemptions. I don't see your point, he didn't wear a shirt that said "Leaf never has redemptions".

The only redemption that has yet to be fulfilled is Denard Robinson from Leaf Trinity and I know he's actively working to correct that.

Not quite sure how well it's really going. Seems like most are either getting one bid or no bids at all, even for the #'d to 5:

Since Leaf didn't do buybacks of the entire set, there's not really any "set collector" attraction to these. Since 90% of them are commons, with the exception of the hardcore, obscure player collectors, why should these be any different than the 2009 Upper Deck 1989 Buybacks? Loads of them still around, not selling. How many people really care about a 1/1 of Ivan Calderon or Ernest Riles?

Love this biased semi reporting of facts...

Search highest price on leaf unsigned buybacks and you'll see that people have paid NICE money for unsigned star buybacks...
Linking a tony Phillips to try to show your position is weak... Try will Clark, Kirby puckett or any other "star"....

Also, the buyback card redemptions are all already en route back to us from players...again, good try...

With all that being said, I agree the 91 buyback unsigned is not as big a deal as 1990..

Should we have done 1990 again with a new stamp? Too soon I say...

We did the whole set!

Team collectors will bite off some of those cards that some will call cast offs... BG

Ah, good information to have in a sell sheet or something. I guess for some reason I was thinking only part of the set was done last year, but I guess a bunch of the cards just aren't surfacing on the secondary market. My mistake.

I was able to snag a great 1986 Met PC autograph card of Kevin Elster. This is his first ever certified autograph card that I know of so really happy about that.I know there's a quite a few 86 Met's player autos in the product as well. The Elster is redemption.

That is the best thing about these fan favorite type issues is all the obscure certified autos for collectors who like that sort of thing.

I won my first one yesterday. An Eddie Murray buyback auto #'d/33 in a Dodger uniform (91 Leaf) for $22.50 delivered. I think i did all right! Garvey is in the set, i see, as well. I will try to win a few other autos, if the price remains cheap enough. I might try a few of the buybacks too, but won't spend more than a couple bucks for any one card.

As a player collector I'm happy they made the whole set. It took me a couple of months last year but I managed to track down the 1/1 of Kelly Gruber. Hopefully this year it turns up a bit quicker and the owner is happy to sell it to me :)

Wow, Brian, what a concept. People paying good $ for the good cards or "hits" in a product. I never would have thought of that. Ideas like that will revolutionize this industry...

Having gotten my snarky side out, it is nice to see the Mike Witt signed cards in the product, along with another toughie (Melido Perez). In all sincerity, being able to get certified authentic signatures of tough signers like them is a boost to the hobby. Any chance of a 1987 Leaf Randy Myers? I'm sure there are more than a few of his collectors (or Mets / Reds collectors) that would love a card like that (and again, I really do mean that in all sincerity).

I working on more obscure guys, Sean...promise...

My point was that base buyback cards have demand... It will be interesting to see if someone builds the #/5 base buyback set...
Maybe I need to put a bounty on that?

Of course I'd love to see Omar included in a bunch new products, especially some high-end stuff... but that's just not going to happen. He'll eventually show up products once in a while but in the meantime I'm thrilled with the chance to chase the cards in this set. I loved the way Pacific had multiple variations of the same card, and I see Leaf Memories in much the same way. I don't mind the buyback concept and in fact, I'm already looking forward to 2014 Memories, 2015, 2016...

Thanks BG!
