Coming up soon I plan on investing a little in some '14 Topps... nothing crazy just like $60. What I was wondering is, am I really going to be receiving a huge advantage of buying a hobby box from my LCS for ~$60 as opposed to going to Target and buying say either 6 $10 hanger boxes or 30 $2 packs?

I feel like I could potentially hit more inserts/GUs/etc in the hanger boxes and/or retail packs... am I wrong? Do I more than likely have a better chance with the hobby box? Just looking for some advice, thoughts, and opinions on the potential divided between the 3 and where I would possibly stand to gain the most. Now of course I know nothing is guaranteed but really just a generalized idea.

Your better odds are to go with the Hobby and get the guaranteed hits. Its safe to assume that pack searchers have already been through the shelves at your local target and the hanger boxes usually have long odds.

good luck either way

I might suggest getting 3 blasters at $20 each. Odds are, the three repro patches that you pull from those boxes are going to be better than the relic/auto you pull from the hobby box (and you still have the chance of pulling a relic/auto from a blaster). With blasters you will also get the retail only parallels (red, blue, etc).

I think the choice is hobby vs blasters - I don't see much value in the rack packs or hanger boxes at Target/Wal-mart this year.

I would suggest buying singles. At this point you can get more GU/Patches/Auto's or parallels/inserts for the $60 then you would in a hobby or 3 blaster's.

I'd go with:

1. Singles
2. Hobby box
3. 5 or 6 Jumbo packs
4. 3 Blasters

wait a few months and you can get a pair of 2014 Topps Hobby boxes for just a few bucks more than your current $60 budget.
