The most surefire way I’m aware of is the “PH” indicator next to a player’s name in the boxscore. Here's a sample:perhaps a dumb question , but......
is there any surefire (and simple) way to look at a boxscore and see if a player enters the game as a pinch-hitter or if he enters as a defensive replacement who later happens to get a plate appearance ? (branch 6 scenario #2)
For SF, you’ll see Austin and Sandoval have this indicator, while Suarez for CIN has the same.
This particular game had many other substitutions and defensive switches. Just go to the Plays tab for more info.
