I know I've heard Live has taken the backseat to 2k in the past few years, but I've heard this year Live makes a bit of a come back. Any thoughts? I'm finally going to get a next gen NBA game and trying to decide between the 2.

To add a pro in the Live column I noticed that I can get Live for $50 and Fight Night Round 4 for $20 if I buy them together at best buy.

Problem solved, I went with this deal and the $15 in reward zone coupons I had. Tax included I got the two for $58. If anyone is interested I'll post how it is tomorrow after I test it out tonight.

Thanks for the advice after the fact... ;)

I played a few games of Live last night without trying out Fight Night yet. First thing I thought was pretty cool is that Live doesn't have a menu screen in the typical way. It actually puts you in a gym and throws 8-10 of the best players or best rookies in the gym and you can just control them and do whatever you want before a game or during load screens. Yes, you actually can play during loading times. I guess it's been there in past years of Live, but it was new to me and very very cool. The overall menu system seemed pretty easy. Press start to bring it up (while still seeing the gym full of players) and you can navigate to whatever you need.

There are the standard modes: play now, online, franchise/dynasty, playoffs etc... There is also Dynamic NBA, FIBA play, and the AND 1 games. I didn't try all these features, but here is what I gathered from reading descriptions. The Dynamic NBA updates every day during the season to update player ratings, records, and lets you basically play any part of any season or supposedly take over at any point. Say the Celtics lose a game by 20, it sounds like I can take over in the 4th quarter and try and change the outcome or just replay the whole game. FIBA play seems interesting, but I don't know how much I'll use it other than to give Ricky Rubio a try since he isn't on a real NBA team. The AND 1 seems like a real fun feature too. It's basically just pick up games to 21 where you pick whichever player you want to use and can join a game online with others or just do pick up games with the computer players. You can also create your own squad of NBA Elite and bring them online to face others. Could be very fun to play a pick up game of Lebron, Wade, Howard, and Bosh vs. Kobe, Durant, Garnett, Duncan.

I did play a few games with a friend and then by myself vs. the computer team.

In the games against my friend I played as the Thunder, Clippers, and Timberwolves. Kevin Durant is an absolute beast in the game. Rondo is extremely fast, and the Clippers are a pretty fun team to play with. As far as game play, it's tougher than the old NBA games I've played. I think that's probably a good thing since I'll actually have to work to improve. You can't just break a guy down and drive to the basket every time. There are actually plays to run, picks, and defensive adjustments to make. I didn't like the foul shooting, and it seemed like I was turning the ball over too much. Also, the alley-oop pass this year is almost useless (I did connect on a few, but half the time my guy threw the ball to someone at the foul line or 3 point line). Hopefully this was just because I haven't gotten good yet. Overall, I thought the game play was good, fluid, and enjoyable. I'm sure as I get better and learn the ins and outs of the game it'll get better.

I then tried the dynasty mode with a fantasy draft as the celtics. I ended up with this team:
C: Al Jefferson, Robin Lopez, Mutumbo
PF: Blake Griffin, Jason Maxiell
SF: David Lee, Hansborough
SG: Monta Ellis, Courtney Lee
PG: Russell Westbrook, Johnny Flynn, Damon Stoudamire

I was pretty happy with my team. It's young, under the cap, and has some expiring contracts/soon to be retired players. There were some training modes before the season that I thought were ok, but nothing amazing. The menu systems in dynasty mode aren't that great. Again, you press start to pull up your menus which is then easier to navigate. However, it's a big screen of wasted space when you aren't using the menus. Also, trading sucks but I think this is more of an NBA issue than a game issue. Half the teams are over the cap so they can't trade unless you take on ridiculous salaries. The other half will only trade their crappy players even if you offer 2 good young players and a 1st round pick. I'm hoping as it gets close to the end of the season the other teams will value draft picks more. I played one game as this team and did ok. I got down by 27 and in the 3rd and 4th quarter I made a comeback to bring it within 6 at one point. The game play, much like the real NBA, is based on streaks. One team will get hot, and then the other team gets a couple stops to end their momentum.

Overall, my first impressions are that it's a solid NBA game. Some of the issues I have date back to when Live was the king of NBA games, so I don't hold that against it. Other issues may just be my lack of skill so far, which I think I'll fix soon enough.

I know  I wish I would have seen the thread earlier. I dont know if you rent DVD's but if you have an account with someone (Like Blockbuster) you should try and rent 2k10 and try that. Obviously you bought the game already and not need to blow another 60 bucks on another NBA game but worth giving 2k a try so that you kinda know what to expect next year.

I also like the Fantasy draft and every year I have 3 different team. My first team is of me having the first pick and I end up with a very loaded team. My second team is me drafting from the middle. My team is still pretty decent. Then my 3rd team (Which I like the best) is me Drafting from the very last spot. Now this gets interesting and somewhat challenging as after the 3rd round you really have to dig deep to find decent player  but its the funnest team because when you win you know that you had to really work hard to beat the other team (Computer on superstar mode). I just want to say Thank you for the break down as it gave me some new insite on this years version.

I always do the fantasy draft in sports games. In madden I usually try and play as a real roster for the worst team in the league and make them better, and do a fantasy draft. I'd try that with Live as well, but I feel like trading is far too difficult in the NBA to get anything done other than free agents and draft picks. That would take far too long with 82 game seasons.
