You are wrong sir, the way you are reading it, the 48/2 should also be in parens, but it isn't, therefore the correct simplification of the problem is 48/24....simple as that...
Jurgy25 said:Otherwise just go left to right. Example:
yes 30 ÷ 5 × 3 = 6 × 3 =
18
no 30 ÷ 5 × 3 = 30 ÷ 15 =
2
(wrong)
How Do I Remember It All ... ? PEMDAS !
P
Parentheses first
E
Exponents (ie Powers and Square Roots, etc.)
MD
Multiplication and Division (left-to-right)
AS
Addition and Subtraction (left-to-right)

this pretty much tells you all you need to know.
if you believe in implied multiplication, as many of us do, then it is 2. if you believe in sticking strictly to PEMDAS then it is 188.
ultimately, no self respecting math teacher would ever ask this problem to be answered in seriousness as it is lacking a set of parentheses.

People always think that because multiplication comes before division in "PEMDAS" that multiplication always comes before division. In reality, multiplication and division are TIED in terms of which operation is more important to do next. If both occur within the same expression you are supposed to do them in left-to-right order to break the tie. I teach my 5th graders this every year.
