This has been a question which has no consensus whatsoever among prospect related sites, including BA. Both are considered to be #1-2 starters in the making. Price obviously has more experience, but Strasburg will likely get more hype than Price did, especially as we get closer to June 9th. Both have 3-4 outstanding pitches, although Price is a lefty. Based purely on ceiling, which would you choose at this juncture?

I'll bump this thread in about a month's time to see if anyone here changes their mind.

David Price.

Lefty w/ 94-95 FB, 2 solid breaking pitches, post-season success and experience, AND the biggest intangible of them all....

...the mental edge of a leader.

Going with S.S.

I like Price's polish more, but I think Strasburg has a higher ceiling and better stuff.

Amateur vs. Guy with playoff success....

I'm going to go with Price. Talking about who has the higher ceiling is silly in my opinion. Talking about who is more likely to reach their ceiling is a little more meaningful.

I went with Price. I think he'll be more dominant in his prime, and can turn into a crafty veteran lefty later in his career.

If we're talking ceiling (and we are) this is a slam dunk for Strasburg. No comparison.

However, if I were a GM I'd chose Price to anchor my team before Strasburg.

I'm going to choose Price over Strasburg. For some reason I think he'll end up being more durable than Strasburg when its all said and done.

on the field i take david price he is dirtier than a cambodian operating room floor but on the cardboard strasburg is going to cause a tizzy amongst collectors that will dwarf anything price related. the hype machine is cranking it out double time right now! he will be a household name before the draft and will put elvis hip shaking tears in the fans of the team that gets him...

Ceiling would be Strasburg, though I'm not sure he'll reach it (actually I doubt he will given how high it is). Price is already showing flashes that he's going to get there....On a side note, I am not looking forward to the upcoming month's of "Strasburg Fest 2009" & I'm sure there will be plenty of it on here (as there already has been)! Personally, my opinion investment wise, I'll be scooping up 10+ "On-Card" Auto's of Matthew Purke at the same SV or less than every Strasburg Auto that is bought (I'll take the ROI on those instead of the ROI from a Strasburg)- Purely "MY" Opinion though! :D

As I predicted, the poll is extremely close. Everytime I open this thread, the leader shifts back and forth.

My vote goes to Price, for the record. It's a tough call either way, but lefties with four plus pitches aren't as easy to come by.

This one is way too easy. I'll take the guy who has a 102 fastball full of movement that not many people on this earth can hit. Thats about as high of a ceiling for a pitcher as you can get.

I went with Strasburg for now. The movement on his fastball is supposed to make it untouchable. I may change my opinion after I see him in a month or so.

No pitcher is untouchable.

He might his 102, but those are a few pitches here and there. When have we seen someone consistently hit 102 throughout any game, at any point he wants to?

Let's not put Strasburg in ~Bryce Harper~ territory just yet....

Okay. Obviously untouchable was an exaggeration, but my point is the same. Going off what other people have written about him it is difficult to place any prospect higher. I'll see him in a month and may or may not change my opinion.

There is no way, at the current time, that anyone should pick Strasburg. He hasn't tossed a single pro inning yet.

A player's ceiling is projected. Past accomplishments do come into consideration but we're not talking about who's better right now.
