A few beginner questions about TTMs

So I have decided to start sending TTMs and had a few beginner questions for you more experienced guys..

I signed up for sportscollectors.net and also wondering where else to look for addresses??

What type of letter should I write??

Is it better to send cards/3x5 index/photos??

Is it better to send during the offseason to there home of during the season to the team address??

How do I know if they charge $$ to sign some thing??
