I've always been a huge Crawford fan. Great player, never gets in trouble, extremely hard worker and yet is still very reasonable for most people's budgets (you can get his auto's for just a few bucks) and is in his prime now.

It really depends bro. If you are going to be on a strict auto collecting diet, yes of course., but even then there are great Griffey autos to be had that won't cost a fortune. There are plenty of great Griffey cards to be had for fair prices (cheap). Come check out the Griffey thread sometime.

Just my 2 cents. Why collect a scrub when you can collect a legend who is still playing?

yeah griffey base would be cheap but griffey inserts can be 10x more expensive than the average guys auto.

I collected Bobby Abreu for a while - great guy to collect because he's a great hitter who is very moderately priced. If he continues his current pace, he's got a shot at 3,000 hits.

Two stars whose cards wot set you back a lot (auto rookies excluded):

Mark Teixeira and Hanley Ramirez.

Both guys are superstars whose non rookie autos can be gotten cheap. Their rookie cards (non autos) can be had cheap too, especially Hanley.

True, Hanley would be a good one.
