Theres been GU dirt
Theres been GU walls
Theres been GU bench
Even been non GU "Fatigue" cards

But I present to you the next level of (cough) Game Used items to appear on cards:
CUT UP OFFICIAL LINE UP CARDS

737.jpg

These things are really cheap and companies could get like 60 cut out 1/1's
Im no good with photo shop but imagine instead of a large window for a GU card, insert one of these boxes with the players name written in by the manager. And on the back of each of these "1/1" cut cards is a full size photo of what the Line Up card looked like before it was cut up.

ITS THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE

Actually to some extent I think it would be a great idea.

Imaging if they would purchase a world series score card and issue it as cuts, so that someone could collect the whole score card. Assuming that it would be cut into 9 or 12 cards, you could have each one signed by members of the teams playing. It would add 9 - 12 1/1s to a product and likely be very cheap to implement.

I actually agree...I kind of like the idea...

EDIT: Of course, the back of the card MUST include a picture of the original line-up card.

I'd rather have them as a redemption card inserted for a game used lineup card than cutting one up.

I thought Press Pass or Sage inserted them in one of their draft pick products along with the black stickers players put under their eyes?

This would also work very well with all star games. 1 for each league. Not only would you have the best stars in the game, but you would also have the only allstar game for that year.

From a card company vierw, these would be MEGA SUPER DUPER cost effective.

Depending on how its cut up, you could probably make 50-75 1/1's using only one line up card.

And at $50-$75 per (thats what a guy had them at a show), it would cost the companies A BUCK per piece.

That is a good idea. I used to buy them back probably about 10 years ago now off the SF Giants website for about $10 a game. They had almost every single one available back then ... some games like opening day were a bit more. I still have one with Barry Bonds, Will Clark and Matt Williams all penciled in.

Line-up cards are great collectables that are very much underappreciated in the hobby. When I used to work in baseball I would grab the line-up cards off the wall when nobody else wanted them. Here is a photo of a small amount of lineup cards I obtained back in the 80's with all of these taken off the dugout walls myself.

I also have some umpire/manager lineup cards I was lucky enough to obtain. The 1st one was Pete Rose's personal copy of the lineup for that day.

The next lineup card was the umpires original copies for another game.

I agree, they are underappreciated...

I dont think I have anything with Reynolds on it because I have mainly National League teams and if memory serves me correct, he played in the American League. I will definitly take a look though to be sure.

Yeah, all of his would be AL cards (83-92 w/ M's, 93 w/ Baltimore, 94 w/ Angels). No worries though!

If they cut them up into random segments like they do jerseys, I don't think they would be very popular. I would liken them to the Super Bowl tickets that were put into cards and don't sell for much. Collectors know how cheap they are, and I think that would affect the price. If they only cut out the part that has the player's name, and had them sign it, I think that would make for a more personal card and increase the value. They need to add value to these because they're so cheap. If each one was signed by the player mentioned on the cut-out and the manager, I would go after a few of the Sox. I think they had a set in basketball a few years back that had autographs of the rookies and their coaches. Some of the more valuable ones were of scrubs that had famous coaches.
