I'm really happy about this for a few reasons, first the Mariners are going to be getting a high quality bat, second, I have invested heavily in Cole during the off-season.

Horrible trade for the Nats. We dont want prospects that most likely wont pan out. So sick of what theyre doing. Wasting all that money on Soriano and now trading away a proven MLB player for basically nothing.
Mox...Morse didn't have a full time spot in the lineup. Now they save nearly $7million and get a decent prospect in return when [Morse] would have been gone after this year anyways.

Don't understand Jaso over Kottaras. Jaso can't catch...... Smoak is going to be the odd one out and I see him headed to Tampa.

i dont mind that they got rid of morse but i will never like trading proven players for mediocre prospects. and why save yourself the money when you blow it on an overpriced guy like soriano. especially when you have clippard and storen.

What? So you are saying they shouldn't try to upgrade their bullpen?

Essentially they signed Soriano using some money they saved from trading Morse, and got a prospect back from the draft pick they lost from signing Soriano.

I don't see how that's bad? Morse was going to be traded anyways because he was their 4th OFer/2nd 1B and was going to be gone at the end of the season. Would you rather the Nats pay $6-7mil for Morse to get 250-300 ABs and get nothing in return when he's gone at the end of the season? That's not smart business...

EDIT: Cole could turn out decent...Nats obviously see something special in him because they drafted him and now traded a solid player for him. He's still VERY young.

The Nats didn't get Span for him to be on the bench. They're outfield is set: Harper, Span, Werth. That's a lock. Morse was expendable when LaRoche resigned. I love Morse btw. My son took a picture with his spikes at the National Children's Museum, which say Beast Mode on the back. I was way more excited than he was. But Morse was lacking in defense, you have to know that, and he couldn't sit on the bench, especially with Tyler Moore and Lombardozzi needing at-bats.

The Nats clearly like Cole and probably think they know him best. I'll trust Rizzo on this one.

Seems to clear a path for Zunino if the M's don't make any other moves. Will we see an uptick is his auto prices?

I dont think Jaso was blocking Zunino in any way. Jaso makes about 500,000 a year, and i'm pretty sure Zunino's bonus was about 4 million. If and when Zunino's ready they will bring him up. I dont think anyone seriously thinks that would be 2013 though. He has 51 at bats in AA so far.

2013 is about finding out if they can get a season behind the plate out of Montero.

If they can, THEN we can talk about Zunino being blocked.

I think you're selling Cole short. Many pitchers struggle at first in the hitter-friendly CAL (Stockton), but then dominated for the second year in a row at Low-A during the second half. Plus, according to Keith Law, he had arm slot problems at first (which led to loss in velocity), but has since corrected them.

He currently projects as a solid #3 SP, maybe even a #2.

Damnit I just last week bought a Cole Blue Ref Auto. I'm not a fan of this deal. Was hoping Cole would stay with us.
