A Joe Torre story

I live in Louisville - home of the Kentucky Derby. So a few days ago Torre flys in to check on his glue factory baby Homeboykris (Derby pretender)---I have a friend who works the gate entrance on the backside where the owners and trainers hang out. When Torres limo came through they were nice enough, and he pointed them towards Homeboykris stall. One of the guys that works out there is a life-long fan of Torre so he walks up and ask "Mr Torre could I get an autograph, I am a huge fan of yours from your playing days----Torres response was No, I dont sign autographs--My buddy then ask if he could get a picture with him --Torre's response was to turn to his bodyguard and let him say "NO PICTURES". Hey Joe, that might be the way you do it wherever your from---but in Kentucky we are a little more accomadating for a simple request---If thats how you do things---Dont come back! --Not sure you will be getting any special stall priviledges here in KY.

Sad. Another famous athlete or coach is a complete D-bag. Are you surprised? I also have always thought he was a a good guy, but most of these guys will let you down eventually.

I've only ever had good expierences with Mr. Toree. I am not going to defend him or anyone else that someone you could call out, but you have to realize that although some of them don't act like it, atheletes have good days and bad days, how would you like it if someone judged you off of one expierence. I know i wouldn't like it if someone caught me on a bad day and thought of me just off that one expierence. I don't know Joe and neither do you, so anyone that might come in here that calls him names I think is in the wrong. Again not defending him or any athlete, it just gets on my nervs when someone talks down about someone's charactor of one expierence. I might get flammed for this, but I really think that for someone to be an a-hole you gotta give them a chance to be one..

I agree 110%. People think that when they ask for an auto or picture it's Ok because "it's only one", but when 100 people a day do the same thing I am sure it gets real old. These people want to have normal lives just like the rest of us. If you want an auto go to a show or maybe a ballgame and try, but let them alone when they are doing personal things. He wouldn't need the bodyguard if it wasn't for losers chasing him for autos and pictures 24/7.

PS I am real sure you telling him to stay away from KY is really going to break his heart.

i think people started getting the real idea about torre when he wrote a tell-all book about one team while NOT YET RETIRED and managing another team. he's a ******.

that said, i used to have a signed ball of his that an extended relative got during a spring training game... but that was like 10 years ago.

I agree that everyone has bad days---and as far as him being judged on one experience---thats exactly how he will be remembered. It wasent me---I would have told him to kiss my arse and walked away---but IDO SEE YOUR POINT.

I agree with most of that. But this isn't the 1950's where these coaches are making middle class type money. Joe Torre is filthy rich because of "joe fan". If the doesn't realize that, then he he is a total moron. If you can't deal with the fame, and treat the fans right, then don't get into the profession.

If by the same dudes you mean I also have no interest in going to KY you are correct. If you can't see a point in my post, then I am sure you are just the class act that makes these people need bodyguards. Just because someone has worked hard and become rich or famous doesn't mean they owe you a damn thing.

I have met Joe several times at my uncles restaurant and I actually seen the dude stop eating dinner with his sister to sign an autograph. And I am not talking once or twice I am talking 10-15 times, and I never seen him deny an autograph to a single person.

So either
A. he was having a bad day
B. This "fan" rubbed him the wrong way.

Like I said before--I would have never put myself in that position. This guy explained to him that he was a fan of his when he played--how hard is it to sign an auto---he's not standing outside of Dodgers Stadium--its the backside of a racetrack. By the way---Your not invited to come to Kentucky---we would run you out quick--lol
