I have collected for the better part of 40 years and have been a dealer, collector and card shop owner during that time. I have gone back to my roots and now collect the vintage cards I collected as a kid as well as sets like the 1955 Bowman that actually have meaning to me. I finally gave up the mentality of making money at this hobby and treat it as a real hobby. I now have rekindled that enjoyment I found as a child in collecting cards and I am as happy as I ever was as a collector.

These are the kind of stories that make our hobby really unique. Sadly, like everything on life, as a our nature as humans, we tend to give more weight to the negative than the positive. Instead of constantly talking about Topps redemptions, pack searchers, etc. this is what we should be reading and enjoying. Everyone that collect cards should feel this way. These type of stories are the ones that deserve our time and appreciate them.

Thanks David. I was looking to buy the card and not the holder but I did want it graded because '55 Bowmans sometimes are factory cut long and I wanted the protection of a graded card to help insure the card I purchased was not trimmed.

'55 Bowman, opening of Disneyland and your birthday...it really was a magical year wasnt it!!

Thank you for those kind words. I know everyone has their own ways to enjoy this hobby and mine is now collecting something that has real meaning to me at this stage in my life. I would hope that everyone who collects/speculates/invests in sports cards has that warm fuzzy feeling when they think about their childhood. Maybe we need to start a thread on the topic of good collecting stories and keep the words profit, investment, prospector and other "monetary" words out of the details so that the genuine collector stories come out.

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to just post an update as I am now at 190 cards and am well over the half way point in just over a year. My hopes are that 2016 will see me get all of the lower numbers with only high numbers left for the last step of this quest. I do plan on adding some of the lesser Hall of Famer's soon as I have already acquired the big four in this set (Mantle, Mays, Banks and Aaron). After all, income tax refund season is here and I deserve a treat or two right?

I have also added a link to a Photobucket album as this was much easier to keep updated than trying to add links to this thread every time I get a new card.
