Final card, the auto...

Holy XXXX..a **** (well, a German)

Initially I was disappointed as it was WWII, and the auto is black marker on a black and white picture..then I saw the name Adolf

No, not that Adolf! Adolf Galland... He was a Luftwaffe GENERAL and flying ace. 104 victories against western allied forces.

Holy XXXX.

Always an interesting break!

Yeah, they're always fun. I'm super happy with the auto (wish it was better quality but yeah...). I mean, the man had 24 more victories than the Red Baron!

His part in the war is fascinating. A honorable and chivalrous pilot, general of the luftwaffe fighters...when germany began to lose ****** and such blamed the luftwaffes and called them all cowards. All the leading officers under Galland complained to him, he brought the concerns to Chief of the German Air force and was immediately relieved of duties. Everyone under him who had spoken out was accused of treason or court marshaled. Galland was about to kill himself when his girlfriend begged ****** to do something. He told the Chief to do something, so the Chief reinstated him (so he could hopefully die in combat) to form his own elite squad. Galland then reinstated / formed the squad with all his brethren who had been wronged by the Chief.

Red Baron was WWI, wasn't he? Not a fair comparison...:D;)

Valid point, but he seems to be the most legendary of German Aces yet has 150 or so less victories than the leading ace.

That kinda happens when you pioneer dogfighting, which is pretty much what he did. The Baron didn't revolutionize aerial combat so much as help invent it in the earliest recognizable incarnation.

The two eras are very different. At the beginning of WWI they were throwing bricks trying to hit each other's wings, then figuring out how time machine guns to fire between propellers(without hitting them) or having a second person to operate the gun in a two seater.

By WWII the planes were faster, the guns were better and there was established doctrine. Having 30 or so years of background and a chance to practice can make a big difference, as can the capabilities of your aircraft/what you are fighting.
