They should be triple what they are now! When will Beckett wake up? That is why I never go by Beckett. They are to lazy, and are never current with prices.

Pre season those cards were probaly selling for $5 and under. Im pretty sure the went up in price 6fold.

EDIT- Its also not a RC. so 25-30 for a regualr insert auto is solid of anyone.

Who cares about major leaguers, I thought people only paid big money on cards of players who haven't even played above double A............

I was just putting my mint $10 Derrek Lee Artists Proof RC #/1000 in a magnetic one touch while I was thinking...how many of these young guys who's rookie currently sell for $200-300, won't ever put up numbers as good as Derrek Lee....

I shouldn't laugh though, because I have about 20-30 of such cards...

While I do understand there are current players who are performing at a high level that can be had cheaply...the chance to own a card early on(early on enough so you don't have to pay mega bucks for it) of a Pujols or an A-rod type player is what drives people to pay those prices. There are some guys you miss that boat on.I missed Price and Longo and some of the other guys recently but the thing is there are others who I think I am okay on that will actually be impactfull. And if you are a collector it pays to keep up so you are not the one scrambling to buy the cards after they become hot. Some guys become hot and their prices don't drop for years.Do you really want to have to deal with that?I don't.

One can't do this either. One can't buy every card of every player who has any hype for a short period of time before they reach the majors although this is what investors/prospectors naturally delight in. Unless you have too much cash to throw aruond, it doesn't make sense to spend real money with so little chance of maintaining your investment.

What is not being considered here, which is being perpetuated upon collectors by sellers and to some extent the industry, is that you don't have to buy everything when it first comes out, this only serves to drive sales. Invariably everything falls in value, usually precipitously - think housing bubble.

One can find 98.6% of stuff online with some patience, even if it takes a few years. This is not entirely different than the way things used to be 20 years ago. This patience will save you TONS of money and time when as you stop buying what turns out to be questionable investments, making you able to purchase expensive cards with little if any financial risk when they appear.

Even if you try to pick and choose from unproven potential to try to mitigate risk initially, the likelihood of loosing your shirt on a substantial investment is still high...but to a small number of 'elite' collectors, this is part of the fun I guess.

I'm not trying to buy every thing that comes out.But its well known that its better to buy it for cheaper.Of course the next Pujols doesn't come around often but wouldn't you enjoy paying a minimal amount of money as opposed to the levels he is at now?

Also...I really don't condone paying a large amount for a card and in my mind I won't but if you had a chance to get a card of a very promising player for $200 bucks and he becomes the next big thing then you are looking at large multiples of value there so its still relatively small investment.I get these cards so I don't have to later. Not to make money on them.I also don't like the chance of them being unaffordable later on or having to wait 20 years to buy them.

Are you seriously comparing Adrian Gonzalez to Chris Shelton. ::facepalm::

Not necessarily. More like... to everyone who turns on the burners. Who's to know if anyone is going to stay hot or not?
The market is going to reflect what the market is going to reflect. Thanks for the face-palm, though. I feel so put into my place - especially coming from someone with such qualified opinions.
